This document discusses resilient manufacturing ecochains and highlights several ecosystem members in Taiwan. It defines a resilient manufacturing ecochain as an ecosystem for supply chains that is resilient to risks and enables manufacturing of products with services. It provides examples of how ITRI contributed to pandemic control and enabled the medical industry. It also discusses the Taiwan semiconductor industry cluster and how TSMC helps conserve energy. The document outlines various ecosystem members in Taiwan that participated in the discussion, including ITRI, Eastern Electronics, AIPLUX, TEEMA, and National Tsing Hua University.
Key note presentation for EWB-UK's Going Global conference (http://www.ewb-uk.org/goingglobal). Presentation looked at the what? how? and why? of a global engineer focussing on engineering education.
The document discusses sustainable transportation and mobility. It notes that climate targets will require responsibility from all sectors. Digitalization and automation can enable better services and help meet climate obligations. The future of mobility should be intelligent, connected, autonomous, service-based and sustainable. Innovative services will facilitate modal shifts to public and shared transportation. Electrification of vehicles and fleets as well as automation in transport are key actions. Policy frameworks and cities need to support these changes through strategic policies, piloting programs, and innovative procurements.
This document proposes a theoretical framework for assessing the sustainability of economic information and communication technology (ICT) strategies. It divides the framework into four levels: technical, industry, social, and environmental. At each level, it lists relevant factors and poses hypotheses about the relationships between the levels and their impacts on greening the economy through ICT. The overarching goal is to develop a holistic evaluation framework that can be tested with stakeholders to guide sustainable economic ICT strategies.

The document presents four scenarios for the development of circular economy and related technologies in Finland:
1. Expansion - Strong political support enables increasing use and investment in existing technologies without radical breakthroughs.
2. Transformation - Widespread support and radical technologies lead to disruptive change and a fully circular economy through fast-developing innovative uses of technology.
3. Stagnation - Limited societal interest results in only incremental improvements to existing technologies and no systematic vision for development.
4. Agility - Technological development occurs via market demand with limited political steering, favoring solutions to individual problems over systemic transformation.
The scenarios differ in the level of societal and political support for circular economy and
This document outlines an upcoming roadshow in Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore in July 2008 focused on telecommunications ecosystems. It will provide a look into the future of technology, markets, and business in telecommunications. The roadshow will explore how ecosystems have evolved from value chains with internal innovation and control to more open models of concurrent innovation and shared control. It will also discuss opportunities to work at the Future Centre researching ecosystem modeling, emerging technologies, and new business models.

Formal Methods: Whence and Whither? [Martin Fr?nzle Festkolloquium, 2025]Jonathan Bowen
?
Alan Turing arguably wrote the first paper on formal methods 75 years ago. Since then, there have been claims and counterclaims about formal methods. Tool development has been slow but aided by Moore¡¯s Law with the increasing power of computers. Although formal methods are not widespread in practical usage at a heavyweight level, their influence as crept into software engineering practice to the extent that they are no longer necessarily called formal methods in their use. In addition, in areas where safety and security are important, with the increasing use of computers in such applications, formal methods are a viable way to improve the reliability of such software-based systems. Their use in hardware where a mistake can be very costly is also important. This talk explores the journey of formal methods to the present day and speculates on future directions.

Looking forwards, this talk will argue that UX must resist hype, say no more often and collaborate less often (you read that right), and become a true profession ¡ª in order to be able to design a better world.
