“ Burning Questions” When is it okay to unfriend someone on Facebook? Do I automatically get both armrests if I’m in a middle seat on an airplane? A client is sick with a cold – am I obligated to shake his hand? Is it rude for guests to tweet from a wedding? Do I have to buy a gift if I attend a destination wedding? Can I email a condolence note? Should I cover up a tattoo for a job interview?
Etiquette
“… conventional requirements as to social behavior, proprieties of conduct as established in any class or community or for any occasion.”

Seating guests had more to do with politics than etiquette – thus the round table? Early dinner forks had 2 prongs? In medieval times, the first plates were called “trenchers,” and were made of sliced bread? By the mid-18 th century, serving your guests turtle (esp turtle soup) was considered a sign of prestige?
Did You Know: It’s considered rude to put salt on your food before tasting it? At formal dinners today, it’s forbidden to take a second helping? When drinking white wine, it’s considered rude to allow your fingers to touch the goblet part of the glass? It’s good manners to invite an equal number of men and women to a dinner party? During the 19 th century, women were not allowed to ask for wine at the table? The early manners books only told you what NOT to do?
