* Renovation and extension of artist’s studio/workshop/home, part of a late Victorian barn In Clapton
(Hackney). Construction cost £950,000
* This development put an emphasis from the start on a collaborative process of design / construction
between the architects and the sculpture studio
* One of the main features is the house roof, made of weathered steel tiles and closely designed with
the artist/client. The tiles’ subtle spin follow the pre-existing barn geometry, and will be treated with
different aging products to enable an organic integration between the old and the new

* Residential refurbishment and extension in Hampstead. Construction budget £850,000
* The proposal aims to reconcile the client’s needs for an enlarged home with the Planning require-
ments to safeguard the appearance, character and visual amenity of the area.
* This results in a basement extension into the rear garden that is fully integrated with a new stepped
landscaping, making use of the existing level drop to minimise its impact.
* The proposed landscaping will enhance the range of plants and flowers, and will act as a natural
insulation layer and rainwater collector for the extended buiding.

* Garden extension to Victorian terrace house in Bow (Tower Hamlets).
* The brief was to open up the dining space onto the back garden, through a minimum
intervention that brought light and nature into the long deep space. The challenge, to use
standard products to achieve a designed sense of minimalism.
* Structure, function and aesthetics are merged in the main project feature: a concealed
beam-gutter that collects rainwater from the rooflights to be reused for gardening purposes.

* First prize international competition 2006.
* Extension building to existing research centre at University of Alicante. Constructon cost £2.5M
* Translucency as a quality that blurs but doesn’t hide the internal functioning of the building. Against the
opaque concrete bearing walls clad in natural stone on the outside, all the internal corridors, patios,
terraces and service cores are completely dressed in glass: opal glass partitions, polycarbonate ceilings
and insulated U-glass facades.
* The proposed layout subverts the typical corridor scheme by introducing patios which different position
by floor creates open views and terraces as spaces of decompression and relation for the researchers.

ANPE. New offices for secondary school teachers’ union
* Internal fit-out and design of facade for union’s new headquarters. Construction cost £150,000
* How can we make a long narrow dark space look like an open light and welcoming environment,
where staff will spend 8+ hours a day. We wanted to bring a natural atmosphere inside the premises,
almost like breaking the ceiling out to introduce the sky inside the space of an office. This is achieved
by a glazed back-lit ceiling that spreads organically above each individual working bay.
* Storage was the co-protagonist and a key request from the client’s brief: walls are purposedly
thickened and conceal a generous cupboard/shelving space for each user, also integrating all desktop
units, sockets and power points. This way we managed to provide a certain sense of ‘controlled
dis-order’ within the often chaotic office environment.

* International Competition for extension of vocational school near Zurich. Allowed construction cost £2M
* The brief required a high level of spatial flexibility: a big aula space that could be subdivided occasionally,
and connected to a multi-purpose room working as small classroom, seminar, or exhibition space.
* Our proposal creates 2 clear volumes: one containing the bigger more versatile uses, and a second one
with the smaller more fixed programmes such as office, storage, toilets, etc. Their intersection creates an
open lobby as a semi-public space, accommodating the multi-purpose area.
*This programmatic intersection is materially manifested in the supporting structure, which creates large
triangular rooflights above the lobby/multi-purpose space.

* Shortlisted British Home Awards 2010
* The aim of the conversion of this existing 4-unit housing block is to build an energy efficient and
sustainable house, taking into account the small dimensions of the plot and existing floor plans.
* This is achieved by opening the house towards the gardens and the surrounding amenity space to
maximise the feeling of space and openness, through a series of alternating extensions.
* Apart from amplifying the living space, the new plugged-in extensions provide a more flexible layout that
allows future tenants to decide where to locate their main entrance, depending on their personal prefer-
ences and mobility.

Coop-Looping
* Cooperative + Commuting: a new housing concept based on an ASSOCIATIVE STRUCTURE with a relatively
small size and productive capacity from home. The proposed units provide the 3 BASIC FUNCTIONS of a
sustainable settlement:
Living: private space adaptable to different family sizes
Working: home office & storage in the private areas. Co-working & shared workshop in the common spaces
Producing: SELF-SUFFICIENT units with potential for joint production to supply local markets. Shared areas
include barn, storage, tools, etc.
* All units are based on a Generative Matrix which, while securing a fast and STANDARDISED PROCESS of
design & construction, generates a rich variety of dwellings within 3 FAMILIES: Patio, Narrow and Tower house.
* The versatile Design Matrix allows for a considerable number of Iterations with the same elements, creating a
Catalogue that can easily be combined to adapt the new settlements to the existing environment.

Southwark Young Pilgrims Information Stand
* Competition. Design of 2 mobile kiosks at London Bridge and in Potters Fields Park.
* The ‘butterfly hull’ is a light, mobile, versatile piece of urban furniture with a folding structure, that
allows it to be readily transported to its daily storage, or easily dismantled in the winter.
* Though its main feature is mobility, the ‘butterfly’ seeks integration within the river landscape, through
a gradually weathering copper skin that mimicks the old ships‘ hulls. Hence, a light new temporary
presence aims to appear as a perennial object that might have been there for ages...
* Its multiple display surfaces generate diverse perceptions of the piece, blurring the conventional
relation between the kiosk and its users, and encouraging curiosity and a richer interaction.

Wasservorhang (water curtain)
* Poolbar is a cultural festival that during 7 weeks takes over the iconic Altes Hallesband, an old civic
centre/public pool from the 70s now vacant and waiting for redevelopment. Every summer the festival
organises an open competition to design the temporary colonisation of the empty space.
* Our proposal responds organically to the long varied programme -with night and day activities and a
strong level of informal interaction between artists and visitors- by creating a continuous scenic space
surrounded by interstitial pockets or mini-backstages for storage, staff, access, equipment, etc.
* The continuous skin -made of polycarbonate, lighting, projections and the visitor’s movements- blurs
the space boundaries and scale, emanating a waterlike atmosphere that wraps up the old concrete
interior and somehow recovers the building’s original aquatic memory.

Queen Elisabeth Children’s Hospital
* Temporary installation in disused hospital building in Hackney
* The intervention seeks to provide small exhibition spaces inside the old structure, complemented with
an interactive skin dressing the existing facade. This will respond to each environment on different
events through lighting and projection devices.
* We wanted to reactivate a long-abandoned space to show authorities how useful this local landmark
may be for the neighbouring communities, challenging the predominant trend towards exclusive private
developments in the area
