Icelandic Modern Media Initiative In June 2010, the Icelandic Parliament passed the  IMMI  proposal A parliamentary resolution tasking the government to make a legal framework to protect and strengthen media freedom and free speech.

At least 13 laws need to be changed and improved
Why is freedom of expression so important?  ...the right to freedom of expression and information constitutes one of the essential foundations of a democratic society and one of the basic conditions for its progress and the development of every individual...   The Declaration on the Freedom of Expression and Information of 1982 by the Council of Europe
Source Protection The right of journalists not to disclose their sources of information
Icelandic laws states that journalists have a right to refuse to expose their sources  except when a court ruling states otherwise

Media proposal has been updated accordingly
Data Retention Current Icelandic telecommunications  implements min. 6 month EU mandated data retention
Traffic data should not be retained beyond delivering the message! Germany, Hungary, Cyprus and Romania declared it unconstitutional 0.002%  police investigation assisted by retained traffic data
Intermediary Protection Current Icelandic e-commerce law too vague  Only judges should issue take-down notices
