Russia has experienced significant levels of immigration over the past few decades, receiving 13 million immigrants from 1975-1988 and 11 million from 1989-2000, ranking it third in the world for immigrant populations after the US and Germany. Now Russia ranks second after the US, with around 300,000 immigrants accepted per year currently and projections to increase to 415,000 by 2025. There are also around 10 million foreign citizens living in Russia as migrants, with approximately 4 million living and working illegally. Nearly 50% of migrants and immigrants reside in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Many migrants fill low-skilled jobs and have poor living and working conditions, which has led to protests from local populations over concerns about crime rates and job competition.

Now Russia accepts about 300 thousand immigrants per year, and their number should increase to 415 thousand by 2025.
In addition, currently about 10 million foreign citizens live in Russia. They are migrants. About 4 million of them live and work there illegally.
Almost 50% of migrants and immigrants are in Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
For example, when 1 million migrants and refugees arrived in Europe from Syria and Africa over the past two years, it has caused the strongest concerns of the local population.
As a rule, immigrants and migrants in Russia have a low level of qualification. They work as workers at construction sites and factories, janitors, cleaners, shop staff, many of them looking for a new temporary work every day.
The salary of these people is low. The living conditions of these people are very bad. Many of them do not speak Russian and are not willing to adapt to a different culture.
Many migrants and immigrants commit crimes and this often causes strong protests from the local population. According to some estimates, every seventh murder, and nearly half of the rapes were committed by migrants in Moscow.
Now there is an economic crisis in Russia. People have a lot of problems. But the problem of immigrants and migrants remains one of the most acute.
People say that foreign workers only take jobs away from Russians and increase the level of crime in society.
Migration and immigration are very complex processes for all: for those who come, and for those to whom the strangers come.
