This document summarizes an opencast mining project for Impala Platinum Mine in Rustenburg, South Africa from 1998. The R340 million project involved open-pit mining of Merensky and UG2 reef to a depth of 35m and was renewed annually. Over its duration, the project mined over 37 million cubic meters of overburden, over 5 million cubic meters of topsoil, over 2 million cubic meters of ore, and over 5 million cubic meters of topsoil rehab, as well as filling over 12 million cubic meters into the created voids.
