This study examines tipping practices in restaurants and hotels in Tasikmalaya City, Indonesia. There are 261 restaurants and 35 hotels with 1,515 rooms in the city. Tipping is voluntary in Indonesia and seen as a sign of customer satisfaction. While some tips go to workers, customers also directly tip good servers. The study used interviews with 55 customers and 8 business owners. It found that tip amounts can affect service quality and customer satisfaction for some individuals. During the pandemic, many fast food workers relied on tips as their main income since indoor dining was restricted. The conclusion suggests that while tipping is voluntary, customers should tip servers when satisfied to support workers who rely on tips as part of their income.
