This is a Chinese presentation I wrote in 2005. It is my thought on why people use internet on different ways. I read some books and remix my idea within this presentation. I believe Internet is a great tool on four fields to people.People need us Internet on Knowledge Management, Time Management, Relationship Management and Emotion Management.
No, not Frodo. His will shredded like wet toilet paper. Gollum took the lava bath, destroyed the ring, and saved everyone from a 36" Dark Lord. Does he get any credit? Nooooooo. Nine-fingered Frodo is the hero. The ladies all swoon at Legolas and Aragorn. But not poor Gollum.
Internet marketers, and SEOs in particular, are a lot like Gollum: We're shunned. We don't get much sunlight. Our diet is awful. And we never get the credit for business success.
It's our fault. We're good at building rankings and building traffic. But we're terrible at demonstrating the value of our work. So we fling ourselves into the lava. Every single time.
This document takes the reader on a trip through scales of size from micro to macro, beginning at 1 meter and increasing by factors of 10 up to 10 million light years. It then returns back down to the microscopic scale of atoms and subatomic particles. The key ideas are:
1) Scaling up from 1 meter to 10 million light years provides views of increasing scope from leaves to galaxies.
2) Scaling back down reveals the internal structures of cells, DNA, atoms, and fundamental particles like quarks.
3) The laws of physics remain consistent across all scales, yet much remains unknown, particularly beyond the limits of matter.

Developers are becoming the new kingmakers in technology as platforms become more programmable and customizable. Open source software and APIs have made technology building blocks widely available, allowing developers to create new applications and solutions. As a result, developers now have more influence over what technologies are adopted as they have more choice and can experiment quickly with different options. Vendors must focus on creating open and customizable platforms if they want to stay relevant as developers and their preferences now drive technology decisions.

The document discusses the evolution of the web from content-based to increasingly service-oriented and event-driven. It describes how early web platforms focused on static content, while Web 2.0 introduced more dynamic APIs allowing users to access and compose services. Modern cloud platforms now expose event-driven APIs using webhooks to trigger actions in response to events, extending the web with integration and extensibility. The event-driven paradigm represents the next stage in the evolution of the web to a more programmable platform.

1. The document discusses how to effectively evaluate a speech or presentation by preparing evaluation points in advance, observing the speaker and audience during the presentation, and providing constructive feedback afterwards in a concise yet helpful manner.
2. It recommends contacting the speaker beforehand to understand the objectives, preparing an evaluation format or key points to focus on, and observing without taking extensive notes during the presentation.
3. The evaluation should then focus outward on how to improve, using specific examples, and thank the speaker for the opportunity to provide feedback in a way that encourages growth.
This document provides information about how to structure and participate in a debate. It outlines the format which includes three rounds with openings speeches and rebuttals from both sides. Key aspects emphasized are using evidence to support arguments, avoiding personal attacks, and being open to changing one's view. The debate process, from preparing arguments to delivering speeches and rebuttals, is broken down step-by-step. Tips are provided such as evenly distributing time among points and sources. An example debate proposition is given at the end regarding relocating a regular meeting venue.
This document provides guidance on how to conduct evaluations for speeches. It discusses that evaluations are meant to help speakers improve by providing constructive feedback. The evaluator should contact the speaker beforehand to understand their goals, carefully review the speech, and focus on both the speaker and audience during the delivery. When providing the evaluation, the evaluator should use a "sandwich" method of starting and ending positively while respectfully providing improvement areas. The document outlines different evaluation formats and factors to consider when looking for areas of improvement. It emphasizes that the goal of evaluations is to help speakers grow.

Banks took on increasingly risky loans to profit from rising housing prices, but could not repay debts when borrowers defaulted and housing prices fell. This caused major banks like Lehman Brothers and Freddie Mac to fail, wiping out over $1 trillion in wealth. While bailouts stabilized the system, they did not address the root causes of greed and risky behavior that will likely lead to future crises.

Formal Methods: Whence and Whither? [Martin Fr?nzle Festkolloquium, 2025]Jonathan Bowen
?
Alan Turing arguably wrote the first paper on formal methods 75 years ago. Since then, there have been claims and counterclaims about formal methods. Tool development has been slow but aided by Moore¡¯s Law with the increasing power of computers. Although formal methods are not widespread in practical usage at a heavyweight level, their influence as crept into software engineering practice to the extent that they are no longer necessarily called formal methods in their use. In addition, in areas where safety and security are important, with the increasing use of computers in such applications, formal methods are a viable way to improve the reliability of such software-based systems. Their use in hardware where a mistake can be very costly is also important. This talk explores the journey of formal methods to the present day and speculates on future directions.

World Information Architecture Day 2025 - UX at a CrossroadsJoshua Randall
?
User Experience stands at a crossroads: will we live up to our potential to design a better world? or will we be co-opted by ¡°product management¡± or another business buzzword?
Looking backwards, this talk will show how UX has repeatedly failed to create a better world, drawing on industry data from Nielsen Norman Group, Baymard, MeasuringU, WebAIM, and others.
Looking forwards, this talk will argue that UX must resist hype, say no more often and collaborate less often (you read that right), and become a true profession ¡ª in order to be able to design a better world.

Developer Experience is Dead! Long Live Developer Experience!
In this keynote-style session, we¡¯ll take a detailed, granular look at the barriers to productivity developers face today and modern approaches for removing them. 10x developers may be a myth, but 10x organizations are very real, as proven by the influential study performed in the 1980s, ¡®The Coding War Games.¡¯
Right now, here in early 2025, we seem to be experiencing YAPP (Yet Another Productivity Philosophy), and that philosophy is converging on developer experience. It seems that with every new method, we invent to deliver products, whether physical or virtual, we reinvent productivity philosophies to go alongside them.
But which of these approaches works? DORA? SPACE? DevEx? What should we invest in and create urgency behind today so we don¡¯t have the same discussion again in a decade?
