The villagers returned home at dawn soaking wet and tired from searching in the floodwaters all night for a lost albino buffalo. Their hands and legs were scratched and wounded but they did not look despairing. They had endured braving the terrible flood, wading through dead animal carcasses and tree debris to find the buffalo but were unsuccessful. Though accustomed to hardship, having been born and raised without complaint in difficult conditions, they now made jokes in the kitchen as they rolled cigarettes, showing resilience.
