The children identified two school dropout children, ages 10 and 12, working in unsafe conditions in shops near their community. They worked with the local police to educate the shop owners and community about child labor laws and the importance of education. As a result, the working children were removed from their jobs and enrolled back in school. The children continued raising awareness through community meetings and a press rally.

Design for Change Contest in GPS Murad Nagar<br />Date: 16/9/2010<br /> Activity: Child Labor<br />Designed by: <br />Saritha5thMahesh4thSwetha5thMounika5thYashoda5th<br />A feel of GPS Murad Nagar Children-<br />Child Labor is the main problem in MG Nagar area near Masab Tank. 3 Children from murad nagar are working in different shops in MG Nagar. They are school dropouts. The School children and HM are very much worried about the future of those children, when they have heard about the situation of the children from others. <br />The children planned to visit the shops and provide awareness to the children and Shop owners. And they planned to give awareness through the police.<br />Imagine the problem by the children-<br />The children visited the shops casually and identified the problem there. <br />Teja a 10 year old boy was a drop out child from 3rd class in GPS Murad nagar 2 years back. Now he is working in a glass cutting shop in MG Nagar near Masab Tank,Hyd. He is not following the minimum safety precautions. The Shop owner told that the dust which is coming out from the glasses is very dangerous to the eyes. It will damage the eyes.<br />Micheal a 12 year old child is working in Ahmad general store in MG Nagar, near Masab Tank from last 4 months.<br />The 5 member team identified these problems and decided to bring change in the children, parents and shop owners.<br /> Then they met the Police Constable R. Venkata Ramudu from two town police station. The children have explained the problem to the police and asked them to give orientation to the community including shop owners and parents. They accepted the childrens request and attended the community meeting in MG Nagar, which is arranged by the children.<br />Implementation of the task-<br />The Police Constable R. Venkata Ramudu has given awareness to the Community people and motivated them to help the children towards education. He explained about the importance of education with examples. He told about his personal life that how their family was suffered because of lack of education. Due to illiteracy, his parents gave birth to 8 children. He is the eldest child in his family. After realizing about the situation, her parents provided education to their eldest son. After completing his education and achieving his goal as a Police; he took the responsibility of his total family members.<br />Education will change the life style of the children. So dont make them as child labor to satisfy the temporary problems of basic needs.<br /> And he told the communities about the children who are under the age of 14 have the right to education. Either the parents or the shop owners should not go against it. If they dont obey this, they should be punished according to the law.<br />All the parents are realized their responsibility and at the end of the meeting they told to send their children to school and they will explain to their neighbors about the importance of education and stop the children who are becoming as child labor. <br />After that the 5 members team visited the shops and explained to the shop owners about the importance of education and Child Rights. The children explained the shop owners about the child labor Act and asked them to relieve the working children immediately. Otherwise they should be punished according to the law under the Child Labor Act.<br />Finally the children are relieved from the work and enrolled in the School.<br />Sharing the idea with others-<br /> Then the Children conducted a rally in MG Nagar to give awareness to all shop owners about Child Labor Act.
