Over 25,000 students have participated in service-learning at the university since 2000, completing over 591,000 hours of community service through 160 courses across 44 departments and programs. This service has had a significant economic impact of over $8.9 million on the community. Students report benefits such as better understanding of course content, motivation to address community issues, learning about local needs, and gaining practical experience. The program involves over 160 community partners and has expanded to include projects in all colleges at the university.

Service-Learning is a course-based, credit-bearing educational experience by which students
participate in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs and reflect on the
