Information is an expandable, compressible, substitutable, transportable, diffusive, and shareable resource. The economics of information differs from classic goods and services in having large upfront fixed costs to produce the first unit but lower marginal costs for additional units. Information is also non-rival and non-excludable, making it a public good that can be enjoyed by multiple consumers without decreasing the amount available.
