This modern retelling of Jesus parable of the prodigal son traces the journey of Jace Sullivan, who cant stand the thought of spending the rest of his life on his familys Smith County, Mississippi, watermelon farm. Thats a life better suited to his father and older brother. Jaces dreams outgrew the farm long ago.

The Authors Connection Al Ainsworth is the author of books in a number of genres: memoir, biography, sports 鍖ction, and Christian 鍖ction, in which he writes under the thinly veiled pseudonym A. Ainsworth. He is a high school English teacher who lives with his family in Hernando, Mississippi. He loves creating new things like stories, lessons, and landscapes. On the 鍖ip side, grading research papers are the bane of his existence. He also rarely updates his author pro鍖le photos. This series scratched several itches for him.
Inspiration in the authors words I write what I term hopeful fiction. When Jesus tell the story of the prodigal in a mixed group of followers, seekers, and legalistic religious leaders, he leaves the ending of the story open. The older brother doesnt come into the house to celebrate the return of his brother, but the fathers invitation is still open. There is evidence that at least Nicodemus and Joseph from among the religious leaders accepted the invitation to follow Jesus, which gives hope not just to the prodigals of todays world but also to older brothers.

The Plot Jace Sullivan has always dreamed of opportunities unavailable in south-central Mississippi. His unfulfilled ambition propels him to leave at his first chance. As far as his older brother, Sean, is concerned, its good riddance, but their father looks forward to his prodigals return to the family farm in Sullivans Hollow. With each return visit, Jace further fractures relationships until he rarely comes home. While he is away earning college degrees, his father transforms the family farm into a thriving agritourism destination. He gives Jace far more credit than he deserves, much to Seans consternation. Jaces million-dollar idea brings him home to one years watermelon festival for all the wrong reasons. He brings a controversial proposal for his inheritance to invest in his cant-miss venture. But will Jaces quest for validation cause his family to lose everything they hold dear?
