Inmar Receives RLA Operational Excellence
Award
As noted in the February 15 issue of the Informer,
Inmar has received the RLA Operational Excellence
Award from the Reverse Logistics Association. This
honor is awarded annually to the company that
demonstrates leadership in the effective execution of
reverse logistics. Inmar was recognized for work
performed on behalf of ADT -- America's number one
provider of electronic security systems and services.
To be considered for the award, Inmar had to:
1) Demonstrate the development of a clear reverse logistics strategy, including goals and metrics, in
alignment with ADTs corporate strategy
2) Show that measurable efficiencies had been achieved through the integration of technology,
hardware and software solutions into reverse logistics operations
3) Illustrate seamless and visible reverse logistics operations that crossed functional and organizational
boundaries
4) Document exceptional use of human capital, innovation and continuous improvement.
The ADT project was complex and involved a large number of moving (and replacement) parts. ADT needed a
system to help the companys 130 U.S. branches staffed by 2,100 technicians and 212 material handlers
manage their returned-parts process that involved 16 major parts suppliers and a parts list with 40,000 individual
parts numbers. To address this need, the Inmar team, collaborating with ADT and their key suppliers, designed
and implemented a scalable, highly-efficient rules-based, closed-loop system that automated product warranty
and disposition decisions and significantly redistributed returned product handling responsibilities between ADT
and Inmar.
The new program improved warranty compliance at both the branch and technician level, significantly increasing
credits received by ADT for returned parts and resulting in a projected annual savings of $3.5 million. In addition,
supplier return authorization cycle time was reduced to an average of 1.9 days with related administrative time
and shipping costs cut dramatically.
Whats more, the Inmar team completed the design and initial implementation of this new system in just two
months! ADT is now employing this system in all 130 U.S. branches following a very successful 10-week pilot
program that demonstrated that for every $1 ADT spent, they saved $8.
When asked about Inmars work with ADT, Eric Blue, director, Supply Chain Planning at ADT Security Services,
said, Inmar did a great job of collaborating with us to develop a best practice solution that fit our specific needs.
They understand the reverse logistics process, what works in certain situations and what does not.
It takes a lot of people to successfully execute a project of this size. To all the Inmar associates who helped
design, implement and support this project, while managing a myriad of additional responsibilities . . .
congratulations on a job well done! And, a very special thank you to our associates who handle ADT product and
ensure we provide exceptional service to this client every day!
