Companies face significant risks from departing employees stealing sensitive data and intellectual property. A survey found that 88% of companies said they either lacked policies or technology to prevent data theft by former employees. Many employees admit taking company materials they created, and over 25% took materials they did not create. Millennials and those in senior positions are most likely to change jobs soon, within 60 days of leaving in many cases when data theft has occurred, putting companies at risk of insider threats.
