Although film noir ended in the 1960s, neo-noir films that are released today can be very popular and financially successful. The highest-grossing neo-noir to date is 2005's Sin City, which earned $74 million. While neo-noir films are not a very profitable genre overall due to the low number released, some of the highest-earning neo-noirs have been distributed by Warner Bros, including L.A. Confidential, Blade Runner, and Body Heat. The document also outlines several subgenres of film noir, such as romance noir, documentary-style noir, and prison noir.

Institution Research<br />Although there is not many noirs released these days, and the ones that are released are classed as neo-noir as actual film noir ended in the 1960��s. However, when they are released they are often very popular and are huge hits at the box office. The highest-ranking neo-noir to date is Sin City; which was released on the 4th of January 2005. It was created at dimension studios and earned $74,103,820 during it��s lifetime at the cinema and was played in 3,230 cinemas.<br />Although this film was such a smash hit, it is not a very profitable genre of film as so little of the genre is released these days. Trends I have noticed is that a lot of the highest-ranking neo-noirs are released have been released Through WB studios. For example, L.A. Confidential, Blade Runner and Body Heat are all in the top ten box office neo-noir releases and were all released through WB.<br />The sub-genres of Film Noir include:<br />Romance Film Noir: These are classed as twisted and melodramatic. The Femme Fatale is often the main character and is on a path of romance and self-destruction by going after the man she loves.<br />Documentary-Style Film Noir: These are made in a realistic, semi documentary style that are usually set in the typical dark, rain swept, crime-ridden urban areas.<br />Prison Noir: These are Noirs that have simply been set inside a prison or jail.<br />Menaced-Women Noir: Within this subgenre, the tables have been turned from Classic Noir and women are menaced by the men in their lives.<br />Imperilled Children Noir: There has been the odd Noir including children living in poverty.<br />Corruption and Crime Noir: This is usually the main focus of Film Noir. It shows <br />��The Hard Boiled Cop�� chasing the criminal.<br />Neo-Noir/Post Noir: Film Noirs that have been released in the modern day era.<br />Tech-Noir/Science Fiction Noir: Modern day Noirs set in a futuristic setting.<br />

Murder mystery films originated in the early 1900s when crime films were popular. There were two main types - open mysteries which revealed the perpetrator early on, and closed mysteries or "whodunits" where the criminal was unknown. Alfred Hitchcock directed many famous murder mysteries in the 1920s-1930s that helped establish the genre. Through the 1950s-1990s, murder mysteries expanded widely on television and film, often combining with other genres like horror or fantasy. Into the 21st century, the genre continues to adapt novels and develop new psychological thrillers and suspenseful stories.

1. Institution Research Although there is not many noirs released these days, and the ones that are released are classed as neo-noir as actual film noir ended in the 1960��s. However, when they are released they are often very popular and are huge hits at the box office. The highest-ranking neo-noir to date is Sin City; which was released on the 4th of January 2005. It was created at dimension studios and earned $74,103,820 during it��s lifetime at the cinema and was played in 3,230 cinemas. Although this film was such a smash hit, it is not a very profitable genre of film as so little of the genre is released these days. Trends I have noticed is that a lot of the highest-ranking neo-noirs are released have been released Through WB studios. For example, L.A. Confidential, Blade Runner and Body Heat are all in the top ten box office neo-noir releases and were all released through WB. The sub-genres of Film Noir include: Romance Film Noir: These are classed as twisted and melodramatic. The Femme Fatale is often the main character and is on a path of romance and self-destruction by going after the man she loves. Documentary-Style Film Noir: These are made in a realistic, semi documentary style that are usually set in the typical dark, rain swept, crime-ridden urban areas. Prison Noir: These are Noirs that have simply been set inside a prison or jail. Menaced-Women Noir: Within this subgenre, the tables have been turned from Classic Noir and women are menaced by the men in their lives. Imperilled Children Noir: There has been the odd Noir including children living in poverty. Corruption and Crime Noir: This is usually the main focus of Film Noir. It shows ��The Hard Boiled Cop�� chasing the criminal. Neo-Noir/Post Noir: Film Noirs that have been released in the modern day era. Tech-Noir/Science Fiction Noir: Modern day Noirs set in a futuristic setting.
