This document provides guidance for designing an in-service training for nurses. It recommends creating an organized plan that identifies the target population and ensures the in-service content flows logically. Data and evidence should be used to develop the in-service. Both behavioral and cognitive learning theories are discussed. A needs assessment survey using a 5-point Likert scale is recommended to evaluate the needs of nurses of varying ages and experience levels. Both traditional and non-traditional instructional methods like case studies, lectures, and technology are outlined. Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences is also referenced to accommodate different learning styles.
