This document provides information about hernias. It defines hernias as bulging of an organ or tissue through an abnormal opening in the body wall. The most common types are inguinal hernias, femoral hernias, and hiatal hernias. Risk factors include heavy lifting, obesity, pregnancy, and prior abdominal surgery. Symptoms vary depending on the type but may include a bulge, swelling, pain, or discomfort. Treatment typically involves surgical repair to push the herniated tissue back into place and reinforce the weak area.

Basic life support (BLS) involves providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) to victims experiencing cardiac arrest or respiratory failure. Once cardiac arrest occurs, brain damage can start within 4 minutes without oxygen. BLS aims to support oxygenation and circulation through high-quality CPR, including chest compressions at 100-120/min and rescue breaths. The chain of survival emphasizes early initiation of CPR, early defibrillation if needed, and post-cardiac arrest care. BLS assessment involves checking for response, breathing, and pulse followed by CPR and AED use if needed. Foreign body airway obstruction is managed through back blows and

The document defines occupational health as promoting workers' physical, mental, and social well-being. It discusses occupational health nursing as applying nursing principles to conserve worker health. Occupational hazards include physical (noise, radiation, etc.), chemical (solvents, metals), biological (bacteria, viruses), and psychosocial (stress, violence) factors. Diseases can result from exposure to these hazards, such as pneumoconioses from inhaling dust. Prevention methods include engineering controls, protective equipment, health monitoring, and education. The overall aim is to prevent work-related illness and injury and promote worker health.
The document discusses burn injuries and their management. It begins by defining burns as wounds caused by exposure to heat, chemicals, fire, radiation, or electricity. Burns can result in 10-20 thousand deaths annually. Survival is best for burns covering less than 20% of the total body surface area and for patients aged 15-45 years old. The document then covers types of burns including thermal, chemical, electrical, and radiation burns. It discusses burn wound assessment and classification according to depth and extent of body surface area involved. The phases of burn care and plastic surgery for burn management are also summarized.

It describes the causes, signs and symptoms, diagnostic evaluation, and management of each condition. Pulmonary function tests and various surgical procedures are also mentioned for evaluating and treating respiratory disorders.
This document provides information on various eye disorders and conditions. It discusses the anatomy of the eye, including the layers (sclera, choroid, etc.), chambers and fluids, mechanisms for regulating light (iris, pupil), and focusing light rays (cornea, lens, ciliary muscle). It also describes the production of images in the eye and the role of the retina, optic nerve and fovea centralis. Common eye disorders like blepharitis, hordeolum, chalazion, entropion, ectropion, trichiasis, conjunctivitis and trachoma are explained. This document discusses several disorders of the ear, including:
- Otosclerosis, which causes bone growth around the stapes bone and conductive hearing loss. Surgical treatments include stapedectomy and stapedotomy.
- Otitis media, an infection and inflammation of the middle ear that can be acute, chronic, or have effusion. It is usually caused by bacteria or viruses and treated with antibiotics, myringotomy, or tympanoplasty.
- Mastoiditis, which is inflammation of the mastoid bone secondary to otitis media. It can cause abscess formation requiring mastoidectomy.
- Labyrinthitis, an inner ear infection causing hearing
This document discusses several common skin conditions and infections, including their causes, symptoms, and treatment. It covers folliculitis, furuncles, cellulitis, pediculosis, scabies, dermatitis, acne, impetigo, warts, dermatophytosis, and types of burns. The causes typically involve bacterial or fungal infections. Symptoms vary depending on the condition but often include inflammation, redness, itching, pustules, and pain. Treatments involve antibiotics, antifungals, anti-parasitic medications, and procedures like cryotherapy. Good hygiene and avoiding irritants are also recommended.
Blood is composed of plasma and blood cells suspended in plasma. Plasma is mostly water but also contains proteins, electrolytes, nutrients, waste products, hormones and gases. The three main types of blood cells are red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Red blood cells contain hemoglobin and transport oxygen and carbon dioxide. White blood cells help fight infection. Platelets help with blood clotting to stop bleeding. Transfusions require matching blood types to avoid rejection reactions from antibodies in the plasma.
The document provides information on the anatomy and physiology of the human heart. It discusses the heart's location in the thoracic cavity, its internal and external structures, the layers of the heart wall, the heart chambers and valves, coronary blood supply, cardiac cycle and conduction system, heart sounds, electrocardiography, and cardiac output. The heart is described as a hollow muscular organ that pumps blood through the circulatory system through coordinated electrical conduction and mechanical contraction and relaxation of its chambers.

BIOMECHANICS OF THE MOVEMENT OF THE SHOULDER COMPLEX.pptxdrnidhimnd
油
The shoulder complex acts as in coordinated fashion to provide the smoothest and greatest range of motion possible of the upper limb.
Combined motion of GH and ST joint of shoulder complex helps in:
Distribution of motion between other two joints.
Maintenance of glenoid fossa in optimal position.
Maintenance of good length tension
Although some amount of glenohumeral motion may occur while the other shoulder articulations remain stabilized, movement of the humerus more commonly involves some movement at all three shoulder joints.

Non-Invasive ICP Monitoring for NeurosurgeonsDhaval Shukla
油
This presentation delves into the latest advancements in non-invasive intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring techniques, specifically tailored for neurosurgeons. It covers the importance of ICP monitoring in clinical practice, explores various non-invasive methods, and discusses their accuracy, reliability, and clinical applications. Attendees will gain insights into the benefits of non-invasive approaches over traditional invasive methods, including reduced risk of complications and improved patient outcomes. This comprehensive overview is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of neurosurgeons in managing patients with neurological conditions.
Invasive systems are commonly used for monitoring intracranial pressure (ICP) in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and are considered the gold standard. The availability of invasive ICP monitoring is heterogeneous, and in low- and middle-income settings, these systems are not routinely employed due to high cost or limited accessibility. The aim of this presentation is to develop recommendations to guide monitoring and ICP-driven therapies in TBI using non-invasive ICP (nICP) systems.

Flag screening is a crucial part of physiotherapy assessment that helps in identifying medical, psychological, occupational, and social barriers to recovery. Recognizing these flags ensures that physiotherapists make informed decisions, provide holistic care, and refer patients appropriately when necessary. By integrating flag screening into practice, physiotherapists can optimize patient outcomes and prevent chronicity of conditions.
Creatines Untold Story and How 30-Year-Old Lessons Can Shape the FutureSteve Jennings
油
Creatine burst into the public consciousness in 1992 when an investigative reporter inside the Olympic Village in Barcelona caught wind of British athletes using a product called Ergomax C150. This led to an explosion of interest in and questions about the ingredient after high-profile British athletes won multiple gold medals.
I developed Ergomax C150, working closely with the late and great Dr. Roger Harris (1944 2024), and Prof. Erik Hultman (1925 2011), the pioneering scientists behind the landmark studies of creatine and athletic performance in the early 1990s.
Thirty years on, these are the slides I used at the Sports & Active Nutrition Summit 2025 to share the story, the lessons from that time, and how and why creatine will play a pivotal role in tomorrows high-growth active nutrition and healthspan categories.
