3rd generation computers used integrated circuits and semiconductors which made them much smaller in size than previous 2nd and 1st generation computers. They utilized integrated circuits which contained multiple transistors and other circuit elements on a single semiconductor chip. Konrad Zuse was a German engineer and computer pioneer considered the inventor of the programmable, fully automatic digital computing machine.
