The International Legal Practice Committee represents and promotes the interests of Law Society members involved in international law, trade, cross-border practice, human rights, and the rule of law. It establishes links with overseas legal organizations and provides advice to the Law Society and government. The committee aims to promote international law and practice, assist members and their clients on related issues, provide educational services on international legal topics, facilitate networking, and inform members through Society publications.

1. TERMS OF REFERENCE:
INTERNATIONAL LEGAL PRACTICE COMMITTEE OF THE COUNCIL
NAME: The name of the Committee shall be the International Legal Practice
Committee
GOALS:
To:
1. Represent
The International Legal Practice Committee represents and promotes the
interests and views of members of the Law Society who are involved in
international law, trade, relationship matters, cross border practice, human
rights and the Rule of Law. The Committee also establishes and maintains
close links with overseas legal bodies such as the IBA and LAWASIA, the
International Law Section of the Law Council of Australia, relevant
parliamentarians as well as various state and federal bodies such as DFAT and
Austrade. It provides advice to the Law Society and through it, to
government and Law Society members.
2. Promote
2.1 Promote the interests of members in relation to:-
International law;
Trade;
International relationships;
Cross border practice;
International human rights issues; and
The Rule of Law.
2.2 Promote the benefits of membership of the Society.
3. Assist
3.1 Assist the South Australian profession and their clients, the Law Society
and the public with respect to the matters described in paragraph 2.1.
2. 3.2 Assist the President and Council of the Society on all relevant
relationship matters such as the hosting of any overseas delegations,
promote attendance at relevant international events and in liaison with
governments in the areas described in paragraph 2.1.
4. Provide
Provide a range of educational services to members (in conjunction with the
CPD Section of the Society) with respect to international legal issues, trade
and legal practice particularly amongst APEC nations, including, but not
limited to, the hosting of relevant education sessions and conferences locally
and participating in the LawAsia and other overseas conferences.
5. Facilitate
Facilitate a forum for interested members of the Society to network and
exchange information and ideas.
6. Inform
Inform Members of the Society through InBrief, the Bulletin, the website of
the Society and any other relevant publications.
