International Women's Day recognizes women's achievements and calls for greater equality. It commemorates women factory workers who protested poor working conditions in 1908. Today, women worldwide protest discrimination and demand greater legal protections and participation in politics and society. Accurate data about challenges women face is crucial to empowering women, which benefits not just women but their families and communities, and is key to global development and peace efforts.
