Social networks have evolved significantly since their inception, allowing for new forms of social interaction online. Early sociological studies of social structures and institutions helped inform the modern analysis of social networks. Today, social network analysis has become a key method of study in fields like anthropology and sociology. Social networks on the internet are web applications that facilitate contact between individuals, both among existing connections and new connections formed through the platform. There are different types of social networks including general networks like Facebook and Twitter, professional networks like LinkedIn for work connections, and more specialized networks focused on particular topics or interests.

The social networks have advanced over the years since the technology offer a new service. Exist various types of social networks:  Social networks generic : they are the most numerous and Well Known, the Most Widespread in Spain are Facebook, twitter, Hotmail, skype, Instagram, WhatsApp or Myspace  Social networks professionals: its members are related with the laboral work. Can serve to connect mates or for job search. The most known are LinkedIn, Xing y Viadeo.  Social networks verticals or thematic: They are based on a specific topic. They can link people with the same hobby, the same activity or the same role. The most famous is Flickr.
