3. THE CHINDI STORY
¡°Chindi¡± is a colloquial term used by tailors and textile
factories for scrap fabric left over after production.
It is also a slang Hindi term to mean miserly or stingy.
We reclaim ¡°chindi¡± as a positive, mindful life
philosophy!
4. THE CHINDI STORY
Chindi is a labour of love, combining our passions for
knitting, crochet, recycling and design.
It aims to promote knitting and crocheting as urban
handicrafts, not just something your grandmother once
did!
It is also an income-generating avenue for women.
5. THE CHINDI STORY
It has evolved into a social enterprise that supports the
women of a slum in Mankhurd, Mumbai
We are also soon to establish a unit in Dharavi, Mumbai,
in partnership with CORP [www.corpindia.org]
6. WANT TO HELP?
We seek to partner with textile production units and factories to provide
us with their sorted, cotton chindi waste
We request fashion houses for a gratis donation of their cotton chindi
to ethically dispose it off, recycle it, support our women¡¯s communities
and reduce their own textile waste, in exchange for co-branding of all
products made using their material
We encourage partnerships with NGOs working with women, the aged
and the disabled, who would like to make Chindi products as an
income-generation activity
We pay all our women fairly per piece and aim to support the
development of their communities with our profits
