This document provides an introduction and overview for the ETHN150 Introduction to Ethnic Studies course. It outlines the course expectations which include attending sessions, completing assignments and activities using APA style by the due dates. The goal is for students to become better scholar-practitioners in Ethnic Studies. Topics covered include the social construction of race/ethnicity, identity, and the experiences of various ethnic groups in the US. Students will analyze patterns of ethnic community development and roles of minority groups in shaping America. The primary assignments are in-class discussions, a campus experience paper, group presentation, museum visits, group work and a final exam. 10. This is a survey course that provides an overview of the discipline of Ethnic Studies (and) the complexities of ethnic and racial diversity in the United States. Topics of study include: the social construction of race and ethnicity, notions of identity and citizenship, analyses of ethnic groups such as: African Americans; Asian Americans; Latino(a) Americans; Middle Eastern Americans and Native Americans.
