the group can create their whole concept.

JURGEN HABERMAS
According to him, there are two
kinds of social relationships.
1. Personal
2. Transactional
PERSONAL
Interactions are based on mutual regard from each
other as person. Interactions in personal
relationships are defined by cooperation rather
than by competition. The focus of personal
relationship is preservation and development of
the mutual regard for each other.
TRANSACTIONAL
Interactions are based on a regard for each other as
a means of attaining ones goal. Persons are used
not necessarily in the derogatory sense, to help one
attain his goals or succeed in his plans. Here we
put aside personal matters in our interactions. In
most cases, the atmosphere is competitive.

SOCIAL THEORY OF JURGEN HABERMAS
Based on the social theory of Habermas,
society is composed of 3 main spheres:
1. Social System of Money or Economic System
(market)
2. Social System of Power or Political System
(state)
3. Lifeworld (everyday world of
communicative relations)
MARKET AND THE STATE
The relationships of these two spheres are more of
transactional, and so individuals view each other as
means for a particular goal or end .
Market (economic system) pay someone in return of
goods
State (political system) some individuals control
others actions in order to ensure that peace and order.
Furthermore, transactional relationships are neutral to
the affective aspect of relationship
Example: In the market, we can complain
about the services without regarding ones
emotion.
LIFEWOLRD
It is significantly different from social system of
money and power.
It thrive o mutual recognition, and marked by
cooperative communication
SOCIAL INTERACTION AND THE
DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIETIES
According to him, social
interactions as a species helped
developed two important realms:
1. Social Systems
2. The Realm of the Lifeworld
And the development of society
depends on these two elements:
1. Material - refers to the utilization and
distribution of societys resources for the
physical survival and welfare of all
individual members.
2. Symbolic Reproduction - refers to the
transmission and renewal of cultural
knowledge, the establishment of solidarity
and cooperation and the formation of
identities of person through socialization.
LETS HAVE A DEBATE
Situation: You have a close friend, but your
relationship with him/her have been
compromised because of money or power. Have
you been able to revert back to a purely personal
relationship after that?
