Overview
What is the difference between Box, Dropbox, etc. and GoodReader?
Box and Dropbox, along with others, are cloud storage apps (think of it as your
network drive at work only offsite somewhere!). The content is not ON your iPad
(although it can beseparate discussion). GoodReader is an app that houses the
content locally on your device and provides the ability to annotate and modify in a
number of ways (similar to My Documents on your PC).

However, GoodReader can access your content stored in Box or Dropbox and make it
easy to bring content onto your device.
Content management? Do you have examples?
Content management means using your iPad to store and access multiple types of
content. For example, documents (PDFs, MS Office files), photos and videos and
music are all content that you want to manage wherever you are. You can sync
content to your iPad through iTunes, but there will be many times where an alternative
method is preferred.
This can be anything, but a few use cases I have seen in practice include:
1. Reference Library this could consist of training materials, technical literature,
business organization documents, board meeting minutes, contracts and other
agreements, that you may want.
2. Sales literature create a standard library of all internal information for your
sales team that is then readily available when the interface with prospects.
3. Business intelligence and management reporting information that is used to
manage the business is provided or pulled to the iPads, so that information
executives rely on is always updated and current.
4. Data portal ability to link to a wealth of content that is in the cloud (think Box
or Dropbox) that you may want to bring to your device for temporary purposes
only (such as a client meeting, then remove it).
What apps are available to manage content?
As you would expect, tons of apps exist that manage all the content discussed above.
MOST users want to know how to handle PDFs and MS Office documents. We will
discuss using GoodReader, which is one of the most favorably rated apps in the app
store and my personal choice of app for this use.
Other apps that I use include Remarks (note taking and PDFs), PDF Expert and
iAnnotate. Here is a map that gives you just an idea of the choices:

Best Practices
Customize app settings
Maximize use of Find Files tool
1. Create and adhere to a consistent file naming convention (e.g., 20131016-HBR-Social-Media-Tools.pdf)
2. Set preference for length of Recently timing (under Settings General
this setting can range from 1 day to 1 month in time.
3. Star files that you want quick access to for an extended period of time. It
makes them easier to filter on.
Understand ALL of the Manage Files options
Leverage the cloud capabilities Connect to Servers
Understand navigation of the annotation toolbar
1. Pinning the toolbar
2. Annotation tips document included here (this is a PDF to download)
Use digital document (PDF) best practices
1. Naming conventions
2. Document should contain readable text, not simply a scanned image.
If a scanned document is used, it should be converted to readable
text.
3. PDF should contain bookmarks to simplify navigation
4. Links (email addresses, website links, etc.) should be active links.
This means if I tap on it, the website should open up or an email
address should open up my email app.
Leverage ZIP archive file techniques into your content distribution.
