The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of physical objects embedded with electronics, software, and sensors that allows objects to connect and exchange data over the internet. IoT creates opportunities to remotely sense and control objects across networks, improving efficiency. Things in IoT include devices like heart monitors, farm animal tags, sensors in cars, and environmental sensors. These devices collect data using technologies and autonomously share it. IoT requires connectivity between things, intelligence to interpret sensor data, and scalability to handle increased connections.

3. What's Internet of Things ?
The Internet of Things (I.O.T.) is the network of
physical objects or "things" embedded with
electronics, software, sensors, and network
connectivity, which enables these objects to collect
and exchange data.
I.O.T. is an ecosystem of connected physical objects
that are accessible through Internet.
I.O.T. allows objects to be sensed and controlled
remotely across existing network infrastructure,
creating opportunities for more direct integration
between the physical world and computer-based
systems, and resulting in improved efficiency,
accuracy and economic benefit.
4. Things, " in the I.O.T. refer to a wide variety
of devices such as :-
heart monitoring implants
biochip transponders on farm animals
electric clams in coastal waters
automobiles with built-in sensors
DNA analysis devices for
environmental/food/pathogen monitoring
field operation devices that assist fire-fighters in
search and rescue operations.
These devices collect useful data with the help
of various existing technologies and then
autonomously flow the data between other
devices.
7. Characteristics of I.O.T. :-
Connectivity :
Things in I.O.T. should be connected to the
infrastructure, without connection nothing makes
sense.
Intelligence :
Extraction of knowledge from the generated data is
important, sensor generate data and this data and this
data should be interpreted properly.
Scalability :
The no. of things getting connected to the I.O.T.
infrastructure is increased day by day. Hence, an IOT
setup shall be able to handle the massive expansion.
8. CISCO'S PREVISION
In 2008 the number of things
connected to the Internet was
greater than the people living
on Earth.
Within 2020 the number of
things connected to the
Internet will be about 50
billion.
9. Unique Identity :
Each IOT device has an I.P. address. This identity is helpful
in tracking the equipment and at times to query its status.
Dynamic and Self-Adapting :
The IOT device must dynamically adopt itself to the
changing context. Assume a camera meant for surveillance,
it may have to work in different conditions and at different
light situations ( morning, afternoon, night ).
Architecture :
Architecture cannot be homogeneous in nature, it should
be heterogeneous
in nature supporting
different manufacturer
product to be in an
IOT network.
10. Safety :
Having got all the things connected with the
Internet possess a major threat, as our personal
data is also there and it can be tampered with, if
proper safety measures are not taken.
