The document summarizes an excerpt from a book by Dr. James Carlson about his medical training and subsequent realization that the low-fat, low-cholesterol diet advice he had been giving patients was incorrect. It discusses how medical training focuses on treating symptoms with medications rather than addressing underlying causes with diet. Dr. Carlson realized the standard diet advice was not working for his patients and did not work for himself, but it took him years to question the teachings due to the nature of medical education which emphasizes rote learning over independent, critical thinking.
- The author has become obsessed with learning about stomach acids and why hypochlorhydria occurs. They want to understand the root cause, not just treat the symptoms.
- The excerpt is from a book where the author, Dr. Carlson, discusses how his medical training failed to teach him to question established beliefs about diet. He was taught to prescribe low-fat diets and medications, without considering why the diets often did not work.
- Dr. Carlson describes his own experience trying a low-fat diet which made his health issues worse. This went against his subconscious understanding, but he continued recommending the diet to patients due to his medical training.
The document summarizes an excerpt from a book by Dr. James Carlson about his medical training and subsequent realization that the low-fat, low-cholesterol diet advice he had been giving patients was incorrect. He describes how medical training focuses on using medications rather than diet to treat diseases. As a medical student and resident, he was only taught nutrition for two weeks and instructed to advise low-fat diets without questioning their effectiveness. When he tried the diet himself and his own health markers worsened, he realized the diet advice was incorrect. However, he continues, medical professionals are "indoctrinated" not to think critically but to advise what they are taught, leading to poor health advice and outcomes for many patients.
The document summarizes an excerpt from a book by Dr. James Carlson about his medical training and subsequent realization that the low-fat, low-cholesterol diet advice he had been giving patients was incorrect. He describes how medical training focuses on treating symptoms with medications rather than questioning why underlying health issues exist. As a medical student and resident, he was taught to prescribe low-fat diets without critically examining their effectiveness. Only after unsuccessfully trying the same diet himself did he begin to investigate alternative dietary approaches and now advocates a low-carb, high-fat diet for his patients based on its success in his practice.
The document discusses the author's journey learning about stomach acid and hypochlorhydria. It describes how the author became obsessed with understanding why stomach acid levels become low. The author believes asking why problems occur is important, rather than just treating symptoms. The excerpt from the book discusses how the author was previously taught the wrong information about diet as a medical student and treated patients with low-fat diets that did not work. The author questions why he did not think to ask why the diets were not effective and instead just prescribed medications. He realizes it was due to being "indoctrinated" in medical school to think a certain way rather than think freely.
The document summarizes excerpts from a book by Dr. James Carlson about the lack of education on nutrition in medical school. Dr. Carlson describes how he was taught to prescribe low-fat diets to patients, even though he knew they often did not work. He realized he had been "indoctrinated" to not question the standard advice, and to immediately prescribe medications if diets failed. Dr. Carlson tried a low-fat diet himself when his health markers were abnormal, and found that his health declined further. This experience led him to start questioning the standard nutritional advice he had been taught.
1) The author has been researching stomach acidity and its importance after becoming obsessed with learning more about it.
2) They want to understand why hypochlorhydria, or low stomach acid, develops in the first place rather than just treating the symptoms.
3) An excerpt is provided from a book where a doctor describes how their medical training focused on treating issues with drugs rather than exploring why dietary changes fail for most patients.
- The author describes how as a medical student and doctor, he was taught to prescribe low-fat, low-cholesterol diets and medications without questioning their effectiveness. When these diets failed his own patients and himself, he began to question this approach.
- He realized medical training focuses on following established practices, rather than thinking critically about what works. This prevents doctors from considering that recommended diets may be incorrect.
- The author now believes low-carb, high-fat diets are more effective based on his clinical experience, contradicting what he was taught. However, most doctors continue prescribing the standard approach due to their medical indoctrination.
The document discusses the author's journey learning about stomach acid and hypochlorhydria. It describes how the author became obsessed with understanding the root causes of low stomach acid after trying supplement band-aids. The excerpt from Dr. Carlson's book then discusses how medical training focuses on treatment not prevention, and how he was indoctrinated to prescribe low-fat diets and medications without questioning their effectiveness. Dr. Carlson reflects on how this same system has led to the poor health of millions due to dietary ignorance.

The document discusses pH balance and its importance for health. It states that the body's pH should be slightly alkaline between 7.3-7.5 for optimal health, but many modern diets high in acidic foods like sugar, meat, and processed foods overload the pancreas and lead the body to become too acidic. This acidic environment allows diseases to thrive by promoting cellular degeneration and accumulation of toxins in the body. Maintaining alkalinity through nutrition is key to preventing and reversing diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol.

This document discusses the complex causes of eating disorders based on interviews with 15 individuals struggling with disorders. It finds that contrary to popular beliefs, eating disorders often develop as coping mechanisms for stress, anxiety, depression or trauma rather than a desire to be thin. Many reported that disorders emerged during difficult life periods as a way to deal with overwhelming feelings or transfer worries into controlling food/weight. The document concludes that eating disorders have deeper psychological roots than dieting and require treatment that acknowledges their uniqueness and complexity for each individual.

The document describes the author's experience with severe acid reflux that progressed to Barrett's Esophagus. He underwent painful stent procedures but continued experiencing symptoms. Through extensive research, he discovered that the bacteria H. Pylori is the underlying cause of acid reflux and other digestive issues. It affects cells controlling stomach acid secretion and causes excess acid to enter the esophagus. Most prescription medications only treat symptoms and do not address this root cause. The author was able to develop a natural treatment program to eliminate H. Pylori and cure his acid reflux permanently.

This document discusses the real cause of diabetes as chronic inflammation in the body. It explains that diabetes results from fat and waste buildup in and around cells that damages mitochondria and hinders insulin production. Several lifestyle factors can increase inflammation like poor diet, lack of exercise, and sedentary behavior. While genetics play a role, epigenetics or how lifestyle influences gene expression, may be more important. The document distinguishes between acute and chronic inflammation, noting that chronic, hidden inflammation in organs is what leads to diabetes and other diseases over time if left unaddressed.

It begins by sharing a personal story about how the author's grandmother's recovery from heart disease inspired them to study nutrition. It then summarizes the key ideas from the author's previous book "How Not to Die" which examines the role of diet in preventing the top 15 causes of death. The introduction concludes by explaining the goals and approach of the cookbook, which is to provide delicious recipes using only "Green Light" whole foods to support health and disease prevention based on the evidence presented in "How Not to Die".
This document provides an introduction to weight loss enlightenment and becoming an enlightened eater. It discusses how dieting leads to a negative cycle of weight regain due to stress and guilt. Instead, it recommends unconditional eating by listening to hunger cues without rules or guilt. Scientific studies on intuitive eating are discussed showing how some people can eat anything while maintaining awareness of fullness and hunger. The document outlines how habituation means cravings for unhealthy foods will naturally fade over time if one eats mindfully without rules. It argues enlightened eating is a skill involving trust in oneself and one's body without judgment around food.

Cell Signalling and Molecular hydrogenIan Hamilton
油
Cell signaling involves the release of molecules that transmit signals between cells to maintain homeostasis. Hydrogen gas has been shown to act as a cell signaling molecule by modulating the activity of enzymes involved in cell signaling pathways. Specifically, molecular hydrogen inhibits the phosphorylation of enzymes like ASK1 and JNK that are activated in response to oxidative stress and inflammation. It also attenuates the phosphorylation of enzymes involved in the allergic response. These effects suggest hydrogen gas influences cell signaling pathways indirectly as a modulator, though its specific molecular targets are still unknown.
This presentation covers the basics of molecular hydrogen and frequently asked questions answered by Tyler LeBaron, biochemist and founder of the Molecular Hydrogen Foundation

Why is going on a Paleo diet like childbirth?Ian Hamilton

Going Paleo is difficult, especially for older bodies, as it requires changing from a glucose-burning to a fat-burning metabolism. The author recalls feeling depressed and emotionally turbulent during the difficult four-week transition period when their body and mind started shifting to the new way of eating. Friends and family challenged and doubted the change, making it even harder. Both the big lifestyle change and uncertainty that it would solve their health problems added to the difficulty.

The document discusses how an alkaline paleo diet including meat can help maintain alkaline balance in the body. It argues that such a diet relieves stress, which is a major acidifier. The diet provides necessary amino acids and fats from high quality proteins like meat, eggs, and fish. This creates a platform for the body and brain to function optimally, as amino acids are essential for brain health. Studies show psychiatric disorders can be reversed by adequately supplying amino acids through the diet.

While meat is acidic, it is possible to maintain alkaline balance through a diet including meat if certain conditions are met. Consuming meat as part of an alkaline paleo diet can help relieve stress, which is a major acidifying factor. Getting high-quality protein and fats from meat, eggs, and fish provides the body with amino acids that support brain and mental health functions.

This document discusses how an alkaline paleo diet including meat can maintain alkaline balance in the body. It provides 13 reasons why such a diet is alkalizing, including that meat consumption is lower than grain/legume consumption to get nutrients, meat has alkalizing properties like strengthening bones, stress is reduced, and green vegetable juices are consumed which are highly alkalizing. While meat is acidic, other diet aspects like avoiding grains and sugars, which are highly acidifying, help promote overall alkaline balance.

The document discusses 13 reasons why the body can maintain alkaline balance while including meat in the diet following an Alkaline Paleo protocol. It argues that grains, sugars, and dairy are more acidifying than meat. The diet emphasizes eating vegetables, drinking alkaline water, and avoiding high-carb foods to support stable blood sugar levels and reduce stress, inflammation, and bad gut bacteria, all of which promote alkalinity. Including meat provides essential nutrients with less bulk intake compared to plant-based sources.

The document discusses 13 reasons why the body can maintain alkaline balance while including meat in the diet when following an Alkaline Paleo protocol. Some of the key points include: grains and sugars are more acidifying than meat; meat provides essential nutrients and is consumed in smaller amounts; factors in meat lessen acidity; satiety from healthy fats leads to less food consumption and less acidity; dairy products are acidifying and are avoided; and leafy green juices and alkaline water help promote alkalinity. Adhering to the diet also supports a calm mind, stable blood sugar, and a healthy gut microbiome - all of which contribute to overall alkaline balance.

Italian Odyssey Part 4
1. Italian Odyssey Part 4
I have been so remiss on updating the progress of my Italian odyssey!
Im sure everyone will be glad to hear that Ian and my Italian sourdough bread and cornetti
cravings have abated. When we order now at a restaurant we tell the waiters straight away we
eat Senza Glutine (without gluten), and everyone of them knows what we are talking about.
This means we dont have a bread basket on the table automatically which really helps.
Sometimes they have a bread or breakstick without gluten which they proudly give us, bless
them, which luckily taste really awful. This is such a blessing as we are not at all tempted!
There is a reason I have been so remiss in blogging and its because I became obsessed with
stomach acids and wanted to find out all about them and what it really means for our body if we
dont have a strong enough acidity in our stomachs.
I can tell you one thing for sure, good stomach acidity is SO important!
The question I really wanted to know the answer to though was:
Why do we become hypochlorhydria (abnormally low level of hydrochloric acid in the stomach) in the
first place? This is always the question I ask when I
find out about something that we are lacking and shouldnt be in the body. I have tried to put
on a band aid (supplements or some variety) so many times and the band aids often caused
more problems. I want to know what was the initial reason that started the whole low stomach
acidity? To not ask these questions is I believe the way the medical system went wrong.
We should never stop asking, how did we get to have this problem in the first place?
We have instead just found something that will help the symptoms.
And that is why we are in this pretty pickle right now with our bodies health.
Now I think I have the answer to this epidemic of low stomach
acidity. So hold onto your horses as the stomach acid news is a comin soon!

own medical training and the lack of and misinformation given as a medical student about diet.
He wonderfully describes about how medical, dietician and nutritionist training never gets
students to ask why, it just gets them to do what they are taught to do.
He woke up from the trance finally after using the usual protocol of low fat etc on himself and
finding it didnt work.
He now treats his patients with a low carb good fats diet.
I feel compelled to write this book, not to add to the countless dietary books already on

2. the market, but to tell the truth. To tell the truth about what has been working in my
practice, over the last nine years, to help thousands of people regain control over their
lives. These individuals, who suffered from a multitude of medical diseases, were helped
and oftentimes cured, though simple dietary changes.
With the current information being disseminated by the popular press and well-funded three letter organizations, million of people are being maimed and killed each year, because they beieve what these
The title
entities are endorsing. Millions of people are suffering and dying each year because they believe, based on no factual evidence, that what they are being told is true.
GENOCIDE reflects the fact that not only a million of people dying right here in America,
but all over the world as well; all due to the continued grotesque dissemination of
incorrect dietary beliefs. Unfortunately, people will continue to die and suffer horrible
medical consequences and tragedies, unless the truth, a truth I know and have
witnessed first hand in my clinical practice, is told.
I will clearly and logically present the truth about diet in the pages to follow. Sure some,
maybe most people will state what I say is wrong. But that is their belief. The evidence I
can show, the truth I can reveal, will hopefully allow millions, I wish the world, to be and
stay healthy, for as long as their life on this planet.
Someone once said that its not true because it works; it works because its true. We
will start our discussion with this premise in mind. Throughout this book, I will make
statements only if I have seen it work in clinical practice. Remember, what I am about to
say has worked on thousands of my patients over nine years of implementing a
particular dietary plan into my patients live. This dietary plan worked for these patients,
because it is true. Please remember this a you read this book.
For those physician who hold any doubt about the information I am about to reveal, I
was once you nine years ago. Unfortunately, if will be physicians, dietician, and
nutritionist, all of who were taught incorrectly about diet, who will be my greatest critics.
Even though what I write is true and can be proven through presentation of real,
tangible, scientific evidence, there will still be doubt. That is too bad. Actually, it is an
absolute tragedy. Through the ignorance of the very individuals who are supposed to
supply us with the knowledge on how to eat healthy, millions and millions of people
continue to die each year. Yes that does indeed constitute genocide.
When I found out I had elevated blood pressure and low HDL, I started myself on a low
fat, low cholesterol diet. ..much to my surprise I gained weight, my blood pressure went higher and my HDL went even lower. But was I really surprised? I had told
thousands of patients over the years to follow this particular dietary regimen; and I knew it did not work.
This wasnt a knowledge that was obvious to me, more of a subliminal understanding,
as I had never really seen low fat, low cholesterol diets work in the past. I continued to
place my patients on low fat, low cholesterol diets because that was what I was taught to
do in medical school and residency. So I continue to counsel my patients dietarily, about
low fat low cholesterol diets, throwing in that if the diet does not work, we could start
medication. And I knew, most of the time, we would have to.
I implicitly knew
I am truly embarrassed to say that I never actually gave much though as to why the vast majority of my patients did not respond to the low fat, low cholesterol diets.
that the diet did not work because at the same visit I would talk about diet, I would talk
2/4
3. about the possibility of diet failure, and the use of medications.
What was wrong with me? Why did I not stop and think about why the diet was not
working? Was cholesterol elevated in my patients blood because they were deficient in
cholesterol lowering medications? Were blood pressures really elevated because my patients blood was deficient in blood pressure lowering medications? Or
blood sugars elevated because of a defiency in of of the latest sugar lowering drugs? Why did I not smell the proverbial coffee? Why was I so stupid?
I really dont think Im all that dumb. I obtained my undergraduate degree in
biochemistry from Cornell, graduated from Medical School, and was Chief Resident
during my Family Medicine residency. How could I have been so darn ignorant? Why did
I not question what I knew and saw was not working? Why did I just reach for
medications when the so-called accepted diet did not work?
Because that was the way I was trained!!!!
Lets see, its called Medical School because you go there to learn how to use
medicine. You do not go to medicine school to learn how to use diet to control diseases.
When I was in medical school we only received two weeks of nutritional instruction,
taught by an overweight dietician.
Let me tell you something, the way one is trained in medical school stifles any change at creativity or free thought. We are taught what to do and when to do it. We are not taught to think as a free mind in
medical school. Because of this, we are indoctrinated with all the mistakes in thinking that our predecessors demonstrated before us.
Indoctrinated, wow, heavy; but true. We are not taught how to think, we are taught what
to think. Because of this, when we are told medical school, residency, and through
conferences and journal reading to start low fat, low cholesterol diets; we do it without
thinking.
Just like cattle to the slaughter, or should I say, like humans to the cath lab, or to dialysis
or to chemo.we do it without thinking..
Well, wait a minute; I shouldnt just pick on the medical circle. With all due respect, we
are, shall I use the word, indoctrinated again, at a very early age. We are told in
elementary and high school that low fat, low cholesterol diets are correct. We learn it in
college, we read it in the paper, see it on TV, and hear it on the radio. How could low fat,
low cholesterol diets be wrong, when everyone knows, just knows, that this is the correct
diet to be on.
So the reason I did not question the fact, (and it is very important my reader sees the word FACT for what it is) that almost everyone I placed on low fat, low cholesterol diets needed medication, was because I
was trained never to question what I was told by my instructors. I was conditioned to just accept, not question, medical authority. And so I did not.
(after the low fat diet he went on did not work)Guess what I did to myself next. Thats
right I started myself on medications for blood pressure and cholesterol; BECAUSE
THAT WAS WHAT I WAS TRAINED TO DO!
