- 3. Since 1990 and the Broadcasting Act 1990, it’s legal name has been “Channel 3” – 3 having no real meaning other than to distinguish it from BBC 1, BBC2 and C4. ITV is to be distinguished from ITV plc – company that resulted from the merger of Granada plc and Carlton Communication in 2004 which is the parent of ITV Broadcasting Limited.

Get Me Outta Here and Popstar to Operastar, by voting in their favourite act to keep them safe when participating in the show by calling in on an 0800 number or by pressing the red button.

The website offers online streaming, ITV archive, news, sport, entertainment, games, soaps, lifestyle, drama and an interactive TV guide. Each of ITV plc's channels, ITV1, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, and CITV Channel have a page with information on their programming www.itv.com was created on 31 st October 1994 but was registered elsewhere for some years before Carlton and Granada merged to itv plc The original ITV URL was www.itv.co.uk, which now redirects to itv.com. itv.co.uk was and still is registered to the ITV Network Limited as opposed to ITV plc.
- 7. 2007 Design On 11 October 2006 ITV confirmed that US digital agency Schematic would design a next-generation video-on-demand itv.com website as well as ITV's own digital media player. The new ITV online features media player through which viewers gain access to whole shows, simulcasts ( simul taneous broad cast ) , previews and catch-ups of broadcast content, much of it within a 30-day window, all for free for the viewer, funded by advertising. Soaps such as Coronation Street and Emmerdale were the first genre to launch on 12 th June 2007, followed by Games, Drama, Best of ITV, Lifestyle, Entertainment, and Sport – Over a month to create this on website. 2009 Design On 10 December 2008 it was announced that itv.com would undergo another redesign to introduce more social media features and a greater emphasis on its most popular TV shows with a "fewer, bigger, better" strategy. The re-design is currently codenamed 'Project Penguin', and follows the announcement of ITV's Catch Up service being rebranded to ITV Player

RTL Group is Europe’s largest TV, radio and production company and it is owned by German transnational media company Bertelsmann. It has 45 television and 32 radio stations in 11 countries. RTL originally stood for Radio Télévision Luxembourg (in French) or Radio Television Luxemburg (in German).
