Japan is an island country located in East Asia, situated in the Pacific Ocean east of China, North and South Korea, and Russia. It is made up of over 6,800 islands, with the four largest islands of Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku comprising about 97% of Japan's total land area. Japan has a population of approximately 126 million people, with around 9 million residing in its capital and largest city, Tokyo.
