Neil Kinnock and Joe Biden both gave speeches where they wondered why they were the first members of their families to attend university. They questioned whether it was because their predecessors lacked talent or commitment. Both concluded it was not due to lack of ability, but rather because there was no system or opportunity in place for their families to access higher education in previous generations. Biden's speech directly copied parts of Kinnock's earlier speech without attribution, which was criticized as plagiarism.
