The document discusses the benefits of using a common data environment (CDE) with collaborative BIM. It explains that a CDE allows all project data to be captured in a standardized way in a single source of truth that can be accessed by the entire project team. The CDE facilitates open data standards like IFC and COBie that ensure interoperability between teams and into the future for facilities management. The software discussed, Project by Viewpoint, provides a CDE that supports these open BIM standards and workflows to efficiently deliver construction projects.

2. Introduction to BIM
There are any number of definitions for
BIM None are perfect as what BIM means
is different from each perspective.
From a Viewpoint perspective BIM is about;
Capturing all of the project data in a
standardised approach to create a single
source of truth of the project which is
curated and accessed through a Common
Data Environment (CDE).
This is something other industries have
achieved using databases for many years but
the unique nature of construction projects
has delayed adoption in the construction
industry.

Why COBie?
Once a validated COBie dataset has been
delivered to the building operator matching
the built asset; all operations and
maintenance data can be interrogated from a

15. Strategic partnerships like Solibri.
Solibri are the first of many as they fit our criteria
They are an OPEN BIM platform
They actively promote OPEN BIM
They offer functionality complimentary to ours.
16. Strategic partnerships like Solibri.
We hold the models, we sort the data, and
we are the people you come to when you
want to get the data, models or both. We
know what data we have and what data
we need to be fully stocked. We are the
OPEN BIM Warehouse
Solibri check the models and the data for
quality, when they find mistakes the
capture them or fix them so models and
data can be returned to the warehouse
improved and checked. Issues detected by
Solibri are resolved in the CDE. They are
the OPEN BIM Lab.
By working together we will improve each others
software and prove OPEN BIM to be an increasingly
attractive approach to delivering projects. We are
always looking for new OPEN BIM Team recruits.

23. Key Messages for customers and prospects.
The OPEN BIM standards of IFC and COBie dont decay
like proprietary file formats and will serve as useful
knowledge sources for managing facilities and future
projects for years to come.
24. Key Messages for customers and prospects.
COBie isnt just for the UK Government, anybody who
wants structured information about their asset at
handover should consider COBie.
25. Key Messages
