Photojournalism is the process of story telling using the
medium of photography as your main story telling device.
While a journalist will use their pen and paper to tell
stories, a photojournalist will use their camera to capture
the visual representation of a story.

Photojournalists create pictures that contribute to the
news media, and help communities connect with one
other. Photojournalists must be well informed and
knowledgeable about events happening right outside
their door. They deliver news in a creative format that is
not only informative, but also engaging.
Social documentary photography or concerned
photography is the recording of what the world looks like,
with a social and/or environmental focus. It is a form
of documentary photography, with the aim to draw the
public's attention to ongoing social issues. It may also refer to
a socially critical genre of photography dedicated to showing
the life of underprivileged or disadvantaged people.
Social documentary photography or concerned photography
may often be devoted to 'social groups' with socio-economic
and cultural similarities, showing living or working conditions
perceived as shameful, discriminatory, unjust or harmful.
Examples include child labor, child neglect, homelessness,
poverty among segments of society, impoverished children
and the elderly, and hazardous working conditions. The poor,
the social outcasts, or lower classes are portrayed in
compassionate observation.
The documentary power of the images is associated with the
desire for political and social change.
A photo-essay is a set or series of photographs that are made
to create series of emotions in the viewer.
A photo essay will often show pictures in deep emotional
stages. Photo essays range from purely photographic works to
photographs with captions or small comments to full text
essays illustrated with photographs.

A visual preference survey is a technique for obtaining
public feedback on physical design alternatives. It is often
used when designing zoning codes, planning
redevelopment, and conducting urban planning research.
The survey consists of a series of images that
participants must score according to their preference.
Ethics can be shortly defined as the
reasoning behind human action and
morals. When moral refers to the
practical value choices a human
makes, ethics refers to the
principles behind them.
The ethics of journalism have many
aspects: law, instructions, professional
norms, good manners and politeness
guidelines.
The ethical code of journalism is much
the same as the ethical code of science.
As with science, also in journalism it is
important to be objective, critical,
autonomous and progressive.
The role of an architecture critic is not simply to
critique architecture, providing an opinion on the quality
of the latest buildings, but to unpick and expose the
planning policies, funding sources, and political agendas
that shape the built environment and frame projects in
their wider societal contexts.
