A grain of granite describes its long journey from a mountain to the ocean. It began when a rainstorm caused a flood that sent the granite rolling down the mountain into a river. It was tossed and turned in the river's rapids and meanders for days, fearing it would crack apart. Eventually, the granite reached the river's delta and entered the ocean, relieved to be out of the river. Months later, the granite discovered it had transformed into shale over the course of its long and eventful journey.
