- 2. The Running of the Bulls (El Encierro)
- 3. Pamplona, Espa?a This is the map of spain This is A map of the city of Pamplona Pamplona is in the northern region of Spain and borders France.
- 4. La Historia del Encierro The literal translation of ¡°el encierro¡± is ¡°the enclosing¡± It is one of the events of a 9 day festival celebrating San Ferm¨ªn, the patron saint of Pamplona. The purpose of the bulls running through this area is to transport the bulls to the bullring where the bullfight is performed later that night. This tradition began when daring spectators would jump in front of the bull and try to outrun it. The crowd traditionally wears all white with the exception of a red waistband and neckerchief.

Bullfighting Bullfighting is one of the oldest Spanish traditions and has become quite controversial as animal rights activists have deemed it as ¡°cruel¡± to the bulls. ¡° Matadores¡± or ¡°toreros,¡± the Spanish words for bullfighters, entice the bulls to run towards them and perform elaborate techniques to escape their aim. Matadores are highly trained although many people have gotten hurt during this tradition. At the end of the fight, the bulls are killed and dragged around the stadium as the crowd cheers. (¡°la corrida de toros¡±)
- 6. La Tomatina This festival is a food fight held in the streets of Bu?ol, Valencia and coincides with the week long festival for the patron saint, San Jos¨¦. La Tomatina itself does not have any religious or political significance, it is just for fun! The street is packed with people participating in ¡°la batalla¡± (the battle) and everybody becomes covered in tomato juice almost instantly. The event takes place on the last Wednesday of August every year.
- 7. Las Fallas Las Fallas, literally ¡°the fires¡± is a five day festival that also takes place in Bu?ol, Valencia. This festival also coincides with the week-long festival honoring San Jos¨¦. The big event is the burning of huge cardboard, wood, and plaster statues resembling historical and popular figures of Spain.
