The Kalamazoo Promise provides funding for college tuition for graduates of the Kalamazoo Public School system. It will pay 100% of tuition for those who attended K-12 and less for those who attended for fewer years, down to 0% for those who only attended 11th-12th grade. Since starting in 2005, the program has resulted in improved high school test scores over four years, a higher graduation rate for African American girls than elsewhere in the state, and 90% of graduates going on to college. It has also paid over $35 million to fund college for 2,500 students and helped stop suburban flight from the school system.
