This document provides an overview of the ActiveSupport gem in Ruby on Rails. It discusses how ActiveSupport is included with Rails and can also be used independently. It then demonstrates various helper methods from ActiveSupport for working with strings, dates/times, arrays, and hashes. These include pluralize, singularize, camelize, constantize, presence, ago, since, beginning_of_day, end_of_year, and assert_valid_keys. The document seeks to illustrate useful ActiveSupport utilities through examples in Pry.
The document contains random words and phrases with no clear meaning or context. It includes the words "cept, cap, cep, cip" repeated multiple times along with other unrelated words like "captive", "anticipation", "capability", and "caption". It also includes a short definition of the word "captive" and a one sentence example using that word. The document appears to be nonsensical with no clear purpose or main point to summarize.
[Hatsune Miku] Shoot Frieza with Amazon Kinesis ! [EN]֮ ˮ
?
This document describes a demonstration given at JAWSDAYS 2014 where the presenter used Amazon Kinesis to visualize real-time data from Twitter in order to power up an anime character and have her defeat the Dragon Ball villain Frieza. The presenter developed a program to collect tweets, analyze them for sentiment, and put the resulting "power" levels into a Kinesis stream. Another program retrieved the data from Kinesis, analyzed the tweets further using MeCab, and stored the results in DynamoDB. A Unity program then visualized the power level increasing and was used to make it appear the character defeated Frieza. The presenter discussed issues encountered with DynamoDB throughput and keeping processes running.

Troubleshooting & Debugging Production Microservices in Kubernetes as present...Baruch Sadogursky
?
Debugging applications in production is like being the detective in a crime movie. Especially with microservices. Especially with containers. Especially in the cloud. Trying to see whats going on in a production deployment at scale is impossible without proper tools! Google has spent over a decade deploying containerized Java applications at unprecedented scale and the infrastructure and tools developed by Google have made it uniquely possible to manage, troubleshoot, and debug, at scale.
Join this session to see how you can diagnose and troubleshoot production issues w/ out of the box Kubernetes tools, as well as getting insight from the ecosystem with Weave Scope, JFrog Artifactory & Stackdriver tools.
Serverless computing allows developers to run code without managing servers. It is billed based on usage rather than on servers. Key serverless services include AWS Lambda for compute, S3 for storage, and DynamoDB for databases. While new, serverless offers opportunities to reduce costs and focus on code over infrastructure. Developers must learn serverless best practices for lifecycle management, organization, and hands-off operations. The Serverless Framework helps develop and deploy serverless applications.

New York Kubernetes: CI/CD Patterns for KubernetesAndrew Phillips
?
This document discusses CI/CD patterns for Kubernetes. It begins with an agenda and speaker bios. It then discusses the challenges of CI/CD for Kubernetes, including that it is a new space with unclear standard practices. It introduces concepts like environment and application repositories, manifests, and applied manifest sets. It also debunks some myths. The main part describes four related CI/CD processes: application code/config updates, environment config updates, environment restore, and detecting environment config drift. It uses diagrams to illustrate how a tool could implement these patterns.

1. The document discusses metrics-driven continuous delivery and focuses on using metrics throughout the development and delivery process.
2. It emphasizes using architectural metrics in addition to functional metrics to help determine if a new version is likely to cause catastrophic failures before deploying to production.
3. It also argues that the concept of continuous delivery pipelines should extend beyond production deployments to help evaluate user experience and gain feedback on new features beyond just technical metrics.

The Multiple Dimensions of Cross-Cloud ComputingAndrew Phillips
?
The document discusses the benefits of cross-cloud computing and using multiple cloud providers. It describes how cloud technologies and user needs have evolved over time, moving from diverse APIs across providers to more standardized APIs within common abstractions like storage and computing. However, using a single provider still poses risks of vendor lock-in. Multi-cloud approaches help address these risks by providing consistent ways to work with different cloud services and gain experience/knowledge using multiple providers.

The Future of Repair: Transparent and Incremental by Botond De?nesScyllaDB
?
Regularly run repairs are essential to keep clusters healthy, yet having a good repair schedule is more challenging than it should be. Repairs often take a long time, preventing running them often. This has an impact on data consistency and also limits the usefulness of the new repair based tombstone garbage collection. We want to address these challenges by making repairs incremental and allowing for automatic repair scheduling, without relying on external tools.
World Information Architecture Day 2025 - UX at a CrossroadsJoshua Randall
?
User Experience stands at a crossroads: will we live up to our potential to design a better world? or will we be co-opted by product management or another business buzzword?
Looking backwards, this talk will show how UX has repeatedly failed to create a better world, drawing on industry data from Nielsen Norman Group, Baymard, MeasuringU, WebAIM, and others.
Looking forwards, this talk will argue that UX must resist hype, say no more often and collaborate less often (you read that right), and become a true profession in order to be able to design a better world.
