Agnes Scott College is a diverse independent and residential liberal arts college for women with an enrollment of 900 students.
Associate Dean of Students and Special Assistant to the President on Diversity, July 2008-Present
Promoted to this position where I have been actively involved in recruiting and retaining students through a variety of key leadership
roles on campus. In this role, I have been responsible for supervising the directors of the departments of Intercultural Affairs,
Residence Life, Student Activities and Community Engagement, and Student Leadership and Development. My responsibilities
have also included serving as the Chief Diversity Officer of the institution and working closely with the President and Vice-
President to ensure that Agnes Scott College demonstrates its commitment to diversity and inclusion. I also serve as the Associate
Dean of Students in the division of Student Life.
Report directly to the president on issues related to diversity and inclusion that are consistent with Engaging the Wider
World, the strategic plan of 2014.
Report directly to the vice-president of student life and dean of students on areas related to student life.
Chair the Assessment team for the division of Student Life.
Worked with directors in the departments that I supervise to create strategic plans and visions for their areas that are directly
in line with the mission and strategic plan of the college and the division.
Provide on-call emergency support to students as part of the Residence Life staff.
Serve on the Transgender Task Force, Financial Aid appeals committee, Student Concerns committee, and the Vice-
President of Enrollment search committee.
Sit on the Executive Council of the College to advise the senior leadership team in the areas of diversity and inclusion.
Developed a comprehensive data collection plan and created the Assessing Diversity at Agnes Scott College project.
Currently, developing a Diversity Action Plan to implement college wide based upon the final report from the Assessing
Diversity project.
Collaborate intentionally and purposefully with the departments of Health Services, Personal Counseling and Public Safety
through the advancement of several initiatives aimed at improving student wellness with the implementation of the
emergency on-call protocol.
Advise recruitment efforts for identifying and hiring diverse and underrepresented faculty at the institution.
Co-Created the Safe Zone curriculum and serve as chair of the committee that implements ongoing training and workshops
to raise awareness and sensitivity to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Questioning (LGBTQIQ)
members of the Agnes Scott community.
Manage the Alston Campus Student Center which includes various departments and facilities (e.g. computer labs and
recreation areas).
Partnered with the division of Academic Affairs on a team to coordinate efforts to recruit and retain underrepresented
students in the natural and physical sciences through the inaugural Generating Excellence in Math and Science (GEMS)
summer bridge program.
Oversee the management of various budgets within departments including the Elizabeth Gilliland Chandler Memorial Fund
and the Alston Campus Center Fund.
Serve as an alternate member of the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
Advised peer-led Judicial Board for the Residence Halls from August 2008-August 2009.
Co-chaired the planning committee for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation from 2007-2009.
Co-chaired the Presidents Committee on Community Diversity with an emphasis on building a vision for the committee
from 2007-2009.

Director of Multicultural Affairs, August 2006-July 2008
In this role, I was responsible for leading efforts to increase intercultural engagement on campus through a variety of initiatives and
programs. My position was focused on building intercultural programs that demonstrated a sustained commitment to diversity as the
department moved from having a part-time director during my first year to having a full-time director in my second year in the role.
Developed and implemented a logic model and expansion plan for diversity initiatives on campus which included innovative
programming and instrumental diversity training.
Co-Chaired the Presidents Committee for Community Diversity and advised the president on issues related to diversity and
multiculturalism on campus.
Served as a consultant and mediator for diversity and multicultural issues to all campus constituencies.
Coordinated community service trips and led students to New Orleans, Louisiana to rebuild homes for survivors of Hurricane
Katrina for two years.
Directed and supervised the office of multicultural affairs and a team of twelve student assistants.
Developed and implemented Think, Live, Engage: An Intercultural Dialogue Series at Agnes Scott.
Implemented new activities and programs on campus (e.g., Chinese/Lunar New Year, Scholar Thursday Series during Black
History Month, and Transgender Day of Remembrance).
Advised the Chairs of Student Multicultural Organizations (COSMO) which is a group of representatives from organizations
that comprise underrepresented students including Jewish Student Association, Muslim Student Association, the LGBTQIA
Collective, Masala SACE (South Asian Cultural Exchange), Affinity (LBTQIQ Students of Color), Latinas Unidas,
Woodruff Scholars (non-traditional students) etc.
Collaborated with student organizations and various college departments to plan and promote activities and multicultural
programs to honor a multitude of culturally significant celebrations (e.g. Diversifesta week-long celebration of diversity
on campus, Diwali, HOLI, Fast-A-Thon during Ramadan, Dia De Los Muertos, the Unity Banquet, etc.).
Assisted with the development of the strategic plan of the college both as a consultant on aspects of the plan and as a
resource for developing a diversity inventory.
Participated as a co-facilitator for the For Your Information (FYI) orientation program that assists first-year students with
acclimating to the Agnes Scott College environment.
OPINION RESEARCH CORPORATION (ORC) MACRO INTERNATIONAL, APPLIED RESEARCH DIVISION, ATLANTA,

ORC Macro was a private public health research firm focused on conducting assessment and evaluation projects, both within the
United States and around the world.
During my tenure, I was actively engaged in qualitative and quantitative research through a variety of data collection efforts. I
served primary roles on large-scale research project. I traveled to various cities for fieldwork. I also coordinated logistics and
facilitated focus groups and interviews with diverse groups of individuals for research projects conducted on behalf of the Centers
for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

Served as a data manager and developed a qualitative data management plan for the evaluation of the National Child Trauma
Stress Initiative (NCTSI) through Childrens Mental Health Services (CMHS).
Participated in the Global Aids Project (GAP) by conducting intensive data coding and abstraction for the project.
Worked on a team to develop the Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Communications Database for the Centers for Disease
Prevention and Control (CDC) and participated in data abstraction of 200-300 hundred articles.
Conducted data collection on behalf of CDC for projects related to breast cancer and cervical cancer in older African
American women.
Developed logic models and evaluation materials for the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) with CDC with
specific emphasis on programs targeting Asian-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American and African-American
populations.
Wrote protocol documents for the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) packages
for the CDC.
Wrote funding proposals in response to Requests for Task Proposals (RFTPs) and Request for Proposals (RFPs) from federal
agencies.
Developed focus group, in-depth interview, and survey instruments in addition to facilitating focus groups.

Initially, I served as a temporary replacement for the Honors Program Advisor who was away on maternity leave for twelve weeks.
After my first semester, I was asked to remain on in the department to advise and support students through the teaching of new

vitally important to the department as I reviewed all federal tax forms that were submitted for students that were selected for
verification by the federal government.

Associate Dean of Students and Special Assistant to the President on Diversity, July 2008-Present Promoted to this position where I have been actively involved in recruiting and retaining students through a variety of key leadership roles on campus. In this role, I have been responsible for supervising the directors of the departments of Intercultural Affairs, Residence Life, Student Activities and Community Engagement, and Student Leadership and Development. My responsibilities have also included serving as the Chief Diversity Officer of the institution and working closely with the President and Vice- President to ensure that Agnes Scott College demonstrates its commitment to diversity and inclusion. I also serve as the Associate Dean of Students in the division of Student Life. Report directly to the president on issues related to diversity and inclusion that are consistent with Engaging the Wider World, the strategic plan of 2014. Report directly to the vice-president of student life and dean of students on areas related to student life. Chair the Assessment team for the division of Student Life. Worked with directors in the departments that I supervise to create strategic plans and visions for their areas that are directly in line with the mission and strategic plan of the college and the division. Provide on-call emergency support to students as part of the Residence Life staff. Serve on the Transgender Task Force, Financial Aid appeals committee, Student Concerns committee, and the Vice- President of Enrollment search committee. Sit on the Executive Council of the College to advise the senior leadership team in the areas of diversity and inclusion. Developed a comprehensive data collection plan and created the Assessing Diversity at Agnes Scott College project. Currently, developing a Diversity Action Plan to implement college wide based upon the final report from the Assessing Diversity project. Collaborate intentionally and purposefully with the departments of Health Services, Personal Counseling and Public Safety through the advancement of several initiatives aimed at improving student wellness with the implementation of the emergency on-call protocol. Advise recruitment efforts for identifying and hiring diverse and underrepresented faculty at the institution. Co-Created the Safe Zone curriculum and serve as chair of the committee that implements ongoing training and workshops to raise awareness and sensitivity to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Questioning (LGBTQIQ) members of the Agnes Scott community. Manage the Alston Campus Student Center which includes various departments and facilities (e.g. computer labs and recreation areas). Partnered with the division of Academic Affairs on a team to coordinate efforts to recruit and retain underrepresented students in the natural and physical sciences through the inaugural Generating Excellence in Math and Science (GEMS) summer bridge program. Oversee the management of various budgets within departments including the Elizabeth Gilliland Chandler Memorial Fund and the Alston Campus Center Fund. Serve as an alternate member of the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Advised peer-led Judicial Board for the Residence Halls from August 2008-August 2009. Kijua Sanders-McMurtry 2 Director of Multicultural Affairs, August 2006-July 2008 In this role, I was responsible for leading efforts to increase intercultural engagement on campus through a variety of initiatives and programs. My position was focused on building intercultural programs that demonstrated a sustained commitment to diversity as the department moved from having a part-time director during my first year to having a full-time director in my second year in the role. Developed and implemented a logic model and expansion plan for diversity initiatives on campus which included innovative programming and instrumental diversity training. Co-Chaired the Presidents Committee for Community Diversity and advised the president on issues related to diversity and multiculturalism on campus. Served as a consultant and mediator for diversity and multicultural issues to all campus constituencies. Coordinated community service trips and led students to New Orleans, Louisiana to rebuild homes for survivors of Hurricane Katrina for two years. Directed and supervised the office of multicultural affairs and a team of twelve student assistants. Developed and implemented Think, Live, Engage: An Intercultural Dialogue Series at Agnes Scott. Implemented new activities and programs on campus (e.g., Chinese/Lunar New Year, Scholar Thursday Series during Black History Month, and Transgender Day of Remembrance). Advised the Chairs of Student Multicultural Organizations (COSMO) which is a group of representatives from organizations that comprise underrepresented students including Jewish Student Association, Muslim Student Association, the LGBTQIA Collective, Masala SACE (South Asian Cultural Exchange), Affinity (LBTQIQ Students of Color), Latinas Unidas, Woodruff Scholars (non-traditional students) etc. Collaborated with student organizations and various college departments to plan and promote activities and multicultural programs to honor a multitude of culturally significant celebrations (e.g. Diversifesta week-long celebration of diversity on campus, Diwali, HOLI, Fast-A-Thon during Ramadan, Dia De Los Muertos, the Unity Banquet, etc.). Assisted with the development of the strategic plan of the college both as a consultant on aspects of the plan and as a resource for developing a diversity inventory. Participated as a co-facilitator for the For Your Information (FYI) orientation program that assists first-year students with acclimating to the Agnes Scott College environment. OPINION RESEARCH CORPORATION (ORC) MACRO INTERNATIONAL, APPLIED RESEARCH DIVISION, ATLANTA, GEORGIA ORC Macro was a private public health research firm focused on conducting assessment and evaluation projects, both within the United States and around the world. During my tenure, I was actively engaged in qualitative and quantitative research through a variety of data collection efforts. I served primary roles on large-scale research project. I traveled to various cities for fieldwork. I also coordinated logistics and facilitated focus groups and interviews with diverse groups of individuals for research projects conducted on behalf of the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC). Senior Research Associate May 2006-August 2006, Research Associate, July 2002-May 2006 Served as a data manager and developed a qualitative data management plan for the evaluation of the National Child Trauma Stress Initiative (NCTSI) through Childrens Mental Health Services (CMHS). Participated in the Global Aids Project (GAP) by conducting intensive data coding and abstraction for the project. Worked on a team to develop the Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Communications Database for the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) and participated in data abstraction of 200-300 hundred articles. Conducted data collection on behalf of CDC for projects related to breast cancer and cervical cancer in older African American women. Developed logic models and evaluation materials for the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) with CDC with specific emphasis on programs targeting Asian-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American and African-American populations. Wrote protocol documents for the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) packages for the CDC. Wrote funding proposals in response to Requests for Task Proposals (RFTPs) and Request for Proposals (RFPs) from federal agencies. Developed focus group, in-depth interview, and survey instruments in addition to facilitating focus groups. Initially, I served as a temporary replacement for the Honors Program Advisor who was away on maternity leave for twelve weeks. After my first semester, I was asked to remain on in the department to advise and support students through the teaching of new student orientation courses specifically designed for Honors Program students.
