This document discusses propaganda during World War 1. It includes a fragment from a 1917 speech by Woodrow Wilson to Congress where he states that the world must be made safe for democracy and peace must be planted on a foundation of political liberty. Wilson asserts that America has no selfish ends and seeks no conquest or dominion, but rather aims to champion the rights of mankind and be satisfied once those rights are securely established.
9. Fragment uit speech Woodrow Wilson, 2 april 1917 (in het
Congress):
The world must be made safe for democracy. Its peace must be
planted upon the tested foundations of political liberty. We have no
selfish ends to serve. We desire no conquest, no dominion. We
seek no indemnities for ourselves, no material compensation for the
sacrifices we shall freely make. We are but one of the champions of
the rights of mankind. We shall be satisfied when those rights have
been made as secure as the faith and the freedom of nations can
make them.
