Kwanzaa is a seven day celebration created to celebrate African American culture and history. Each of the seven days is dedicated to one of seven principles: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith. The principles were created by Maulana Karenga to reflect "the best of African thought and practice" and make up Kawaida, the Swahili word for tradition and reason. Kwanzaa begins on December 26th and continues until January 1st.

- 4. KWANZAA is a seven day festival celebrating the African American people, their culture, and their history. Kwanzaa begins on December 26 and continues until January 1. Each of the seven days of Kwanzaa is dedicated to one of the following principles as follows:TCXPI 2014
- 5. Day #1 UMOJA (Unity): To strive for and to maintain unity in the Family, Community, Nation, and Race. TCXPI 2014
- 6. Day #2 KUJICHAGULIA (Self-Determination): To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves. TCXPI 2014
- 7. Day #3 UJIMA (Collective Work and Responsibility): To build and maintain Our Community together and make Our Brothers' and Sisters' problems Our Problems, and to solve them TOGETHER. TCXPI 2014
- 8. Day #4 UJAMAA (Cooperative Economics): To build and maintain Our Own Stores, Shops, and other Businesses and to profit from them together. TCXPI 2014
- 9. Day #5 NIA (Purpose): To make Our Collective Vocation the building and developing of Our Community in order to restore Our People to their traditional greatness. TCXPI 2014
- 10. Day #6 KUUMBA (Creativity): To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave Our Community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it. TCXPI 2014
- 11. Day #7 IMANI (Faith): To believe with all our hearts in God, Our People, Our Parents, Our Teachers, Our Leaders, and the righteousness and victory of Our Struggle. TCXPI 2014
