Ozone Layer
What is it?
Ozone layer is a planetary sunscreen and it plays a vital
part in protecting us from most of the suns harmful
radiation.
Ozone is a gas made up of three oxygen atoms (03)
Ozone is created when the kind of oxygen we breathe 02
is split apart by sunlight into single oxygen atoms. Single
oxygen atoms can re-join to make 02, or they can join
with 02 molecules to make ozone (03)

Where is it or where is it happening?
Ozone occurs both in the earths upper atmosphere and
at ground level.
15 and 48 kilometers above earths surface
Is there some problem or issue with
your topic?
Ozone depletion
Reduction of the amount of ozone in the stratosphere
 Antarctica between September and November
 Mainly affects polar regions
How doe it affect life on earth? Or
how is life on earth affected by it?
Skin cancer, cataracts, throat and lung irritation. Or aggravation of
asthma or emphysema.
Planet life such as changes in plant form, how nutrients are distributed
within the plant. Timing of developmental phases and secondary
metabolism. By the amount of UVB present-day sunlight, because of the
limited ability to adapt to increased levels of UVB.
Marine life such as plankton, affects their orientation mechanisms and
motility, resulting in reduced survival rates for these organisms.
Cause damage of early developmental stages of fish, shrimp, crab,
amphibians and other animals.
 Affects terrestrial and aquatic cycles.
 Materials
 climate
What are some solutions?
Protect yourself against sunburn such as limit outdoor
activities between 10 am to 4pm, when the sun is
most intense.
 Apply sunscreen
Ozone layer can repair itself but it takes time
 conserving energy at home
 Approved refrigerators or air conditioners
 Reducing air pollutions from cars
Use household and garden chemicals wisely
Montreal Protocol an international treaty designed to
protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production
of numerous substances that are responsible
for ozone depletion.
