It finds that simulated annealing and genetic algorithms achieved near-optimal solutions with similar effectiveness. Within genetic algorithms, tournament and roulette wheel selection methods performed similarly. Tabu search did not provide significant benefits over other methods. Weaker search methods like hill-climbing aborted optimization early along the optimality-versus-run-time trajectory. Parameters like mutation rates and annealing schedules affected search performance and should be carefully selected.
