Saint Patrick was a priest who lived in Ireland long ago. There were many snakes on the island that frightened the people. To help them, Patrick played his drum loudly, causing all the snakes to slide away. He walked all over Ireland until the last snake was gone, and the people were so grateful they called him a saint. Now Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, as there are no snakes left on the island because of what he did.
