This document provides information about the department selected laboratory at Family Hospital. It details the location, infrastructure, facilities, human resources, quality assurance processes, quantitative analysis of tests performed, and issues and recommendations. The laboratory is located on the first floor of the old building away from main traffic areas and near ICU, dialysis, endoscopy, SICU, cath lab, and OT. It has fully air conditioned sections for reception, hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and serology. Key facilities include an LIS, automated equipment, and centralized air conditioning. On average, it processes 657 biochemistry tests, 194 hematology tests, 66 microbiology tests, 49 blood bank tests, and 52 clinical pathology and
2. Location & Layout
ï‚— 1st floor Old building away from the main traffic area .
ï‚— ICU , Dialysis unit, Endoscopy unit-nearest departments
 SICU , Cath Lab and OT ( Sterile OT’s )are on the same floor .
3. Infrastructure and Facilities
ï‚— Fully air conditioned with Central Ventilation system with one
dedicated A.H.U. for microbiological laminar flow system.
ï‚— Main sections - Reception , Hematology , biochemistry( Includes
Clinical Pathology) , Microbiology & Serology.
ï‚— FACILITIES:-
ï‚— LIS,
ï‚— Automated Equipments,
ï‚— Centralized Air conditioning,
ï‚— Separate OPD Collection centre
ï‚— Human Resource :-
 Laboratory Manager – Sr. Georgia ( DHA-TISS)
ï‚— Dr. Jois- Blood Bank Manager,
 Dr. Jude-( MD –Clinical Pathology) Quality control Manager,
 Dr. Gurmeet-( MD – Microbiology) Infection Control Manager.
ï‚— Other Laboratory Technicians & Clerical staff are 30 .
4. ï‚— Breakdown Management System in the Lab:-
CMC and Optional working Machine,
ï‚— Special Zones in the Lab:-
Microbiology department
ï‚— Materials management in the Lab.:-
Decentralized system-
Reagents –Lab In charge
Other materials –Pharmacy & Materials Management.
ï‚— Quality Assurance:-
1. External quality assurance programm for
biochemistry and Hematology departments.
2. A Blood sample run on both the machines
3. All the technicians -well trained for universal
safety precautions & special precautions.
4. Complete care and confirmation of Results.
5. Quantitative Analysis
ï‚—DATA from MRD for year 2009-2010 :-
Received overall 4,07,667 requisitions for various tests
Biochemistry - 2,39,631 ,( 58.78 %) ( 657 tests per day),
Hematology – 70,742 ( 17.35 %) ( 194 tests per day),
Microbiology – 24,198 ( 6%) ( 66 tests per day),
Blood Bank – 17962 ( 4.40%) ( 49 tests per day),
Serology - 18112 ( 4.5 %) ( 50 tests per day)
Clinical Pathology - 19129 ( 4.69 %) ( 52 tests per day),
Histopathology - 3841( 1%) ( 11 tests per day)
Immunoassay - 14052 ( 3.45 % ) ( 39 tests per day)
ï‚— Per day 100-120 samples from OPD and 50-80 samples from IPD
i.e. 6 -8 Samples per technician.
6. ï‚— Issues :-
ï‚— There are large buffer stocks in laboratory in
order to avoid stock out situations of
reagents and other materials.
ï‚— Recommendations:-
ï‚— Laboratory needs a scientific method of
materials management like Lead time
consumption calculation and two bin system
of materials management.
