1. Right click the folder->New ->Create Personal Geodatabase 4. Right click the createdGeodatabase ->New -> Create Feature Dataset.Setgeographicco- ordinate systemWGS84.
5. Right click on the newfeature datasetfolder->New ->Create feature class 6. Give feature classdetails ¨Cpoint,line orpolygon.
7. Give fieldvariablesforthe feature class,alongwithrelevantdatatype. 8. The createdfeature layerwill appearonthe Control Panel (inthe leftwindow) 9. Close the catalogwindow,tostart drawingline feature. 10. Rightclickon ¡®layers¡¯inControl Panel ->SelectAttributetable.
11. Openeditortool andselect¡®Startediting¡¯ ->clickon¡®create feature¡¯ andselectfeature you added. 12. Draw the feature onthe map. Double clicktoenddrawing.(Zoomtoget a closerview anddraw accurately)
13. Go to attribute table ->editfieldcategory. 14. Whendone editing, go to Editor Tool bar and give save edit-> Stop edit. 15. To start editingagain,clickon¡®StartEdit¡¯. 16. To create anotherfeature,saypolygonfeature, click¡®stopediting¡¯,then gotoArc Catalog,right clickFeature datasetyoucreatedand create new feature class ¨C polygonfeature.Give asmany fieldnamesasnecessary.
17. While drawingpolygonfeature,toretrace linesalreadydrawnaspart of a new polygon,select ¡®trace¡¯feature. 18. Aftercompletingdrawingall features,¡®save edit¡¯and¡®Stopedit¡¯. 19. Rightclickon the polygonlayerin¡®Control Panel¡¯ ->openattribute table ->selectthe polygon to separate -> thenrightclickon the polygonlayertoseparate in¡®Control Panel¡¯ ->select¡®data¡¯ - >select¡®exportdata¡¯andgive folderinwhichtosave in,and name of file.Save as.shpfile.
21. Likewise,lineandpointlayerscanbe separatedintoindividual layersandassignedcolorsand labels. 22. To calculate area,go to attribute table,rightclickon ¡®Area¡¯field->select¡®Calculate Geometry¡¯, give unitsasrequired- usuallysq.meters.
