This document summarizes different types of land use and their social and environmental impacts. It discusses how residential, commercial, and entertainment land uses promote social inequality, overconsumption, waste, and enable people to escape dealing with societal problems. While facilities are needed, they are often an afterthought. Overall, the extensive land development feeds an unsustainable system of consumption that is creating numerous social and environmental problems but is continued due to business and economic interests.
