A massive landslide occurred near a condominium in Merdeka Hills, Penang on Sunday at 1:30pm. Most residents were away for Hari Raya. A resident said he heard a loud noise and felt shaking before seeing the nearby hill collapsing. Heavy rain over the past two days was the likely cause, but it was worsened when boulders and uprooted trees brought down more earth. Two people were found dead after being buried, while several vehicles were also buried under debris. The road was blocked and residents were evacuated as property damage was estimated at RM 2 million.

A massive landslide had occurred near condominium at Jalan Kekwa, Merdeka Hills. It happen at 1.30 pm. Most of the residents were off to their hometown as the celebration of Hari Raya just on the corner. Victim, Ali, 37 one of the residents of the condominium told that he was shocked when he suddenly heard a noisy sound and he felt the condominium was shaking. He constantly goes out from his residential and saw hill near the condominium falling down. According to Inspector Amir, a heavy rain about two days ago without stop has been the causes for the incident. However the incident become worsens when huge boulders tumbled down and hit the condominium. But the major causes are the uprooted trees as it brought down earth. A family reported that two of their family members were missing. Chief fireman authorize that the two bodies buried alive were their family members. Other than that no more death accept some several parked vehicles buried. Only major for the moment is the road impassable to traffic because of the debris. All the resident of the condominium were transferred to safe place for the moment and the destroyed property estimated at RM 2 million.
