About 4 in 5 of the nations estimated 11.1 million unauthorized immigrants are of Hispanic origin. Since 2007 Hispanics are divided about the impact of the illegal immigration on Hispanics already living in the U.S. 61% report discrimination is a major problem. But most report no increase over the last 10 years. Hispanics are divided over what to do with illegal immigrants.
At 47 million strong, Latinos are the nations largest minority group compromising nearly 15% of the total population. Latinos broadly agree on many issues: 86% support a path to citizenship for illegals. 78% say that birthright citizenship as stated in the Constitution should be left as is. 79% disapprove of laws like the one passed in Arizona allowing police to check immigration status of people they stop. 78% say immigrants to the US strengthen the country. This survey also shows greater than half of Latinos put their trust in the Democratic party.
