Peggy Hale, an instructional technology specialist, presented information on Family Access, a program that allows parents online access to their children's grades, attendance, and other school information. The presentation covered how Family Access is available for grades 1-12, the inappropriate uses of accounts, and the procedures for setting up an account which requires an orientation, application, ID, and username/password provided via email. Parents can then log in to view grades, attendance, student information, and contact teachers if needed from the school district website.

Editor's Notes
Welcome!
Introduction
Family Access allows you to see your childs information . . . schedule, grades, attendance, discipline, vaccination records, emergency contact information, test scores, etc.
Skywards Family Access allows a collaborative connection between the teacher, student, and parents. All working together to create the best possible education experience for students.
For PK & Kindergarten students, a mastery of skills is used in lieu of grades for their report card; so their gradebook will be limited to only include Health, & PE grades.
Family Access is provided by the District and its a privilege for you to have, not necessarily a right. Parents/Guardians are held responsible for proper use of the account, so we provide words of caution, the account may be monitored, and if rules are violated, access can be revoked. So we share some of our Inappropriate uses
Using someone elses account or accessing another individuals records without permission.
Downloading or using copyrighted information without permission from the copyright holder.
Gaining or attempting to gain unauthorized access to restricted information or resources.
Parent Orientation Meeting
Complete application form (print neatly for email): making sure 1s and Ls are legible_ Os and 0s they tend to give problems.
Return form in person to one of the campuses in which your child(ren) attends. A picture ID is required at that time.
Once approved, you will receive an e-mail with your username and password.
Email will be sent by Skyward, so expect email: skyward@lcmcisd.org
Spam filters sometimes sends this email to junk mail so check there
Once you login, you will be taken to your Home Page where you can see current messages and/or activities that occur within your account (center), and Upcoming Events (right column). First, you will need to click the MY ACCOUNT link shown here to verify your demographic information. Settings on the Home Page allow you options to hide or show certain features.
Skyward will email you your login information in about 2 weeks. The password is long and meant for you to change on your initial login. A parent can share their login with anyone they choose. You can control your account by changing your password to keep others out. You can access more information by the links on the left.
Contact Us allows you to choose your communication category: Attendance, Discipline, Student Information; Teachers can be contacted in Skyward through the Message Center, Gradebook, or on the Schedule. You can access other information in the left navigation; this screenshot shows a sample of a Teachers message with an attachment for students. Not all teachers use Message Center, but many do. Some rely on their websites or other mobile applications such as Remind.
The calendar displays all the student holidays, progress reports, six weeks and more. You can change the view to a day view, week view, or month view. If you have multiple students, you can click Calendar Display to color code each child.
Most parents spend 90% of their Skyward time on Gradebook checking for Missing Assignments. You will need to pay particular attention to the due date since Skyward makes an assignment missing after 5 days passed the due date. There will be times when your child may say they turned it in, but the teacher may have not graded the assignment yet, or posted it. Note that grades are not considered final until Report cards are printed. Students may have submitted assignments that have not yet been graded and/or recorded by the teacher. You can see a legend that is included to help with codes above the grades.
If you open up the little black arrow, it will give you a list of the assignments that are included in the average.
If you want more information, you can click the assignment.
This will give more details and show the grade compared to the class. You can see the high score, low score and median.
We are very security minded and want all restricted information in the correct hands.
This section has each Students ID picture with email, phone number, address, parents
Emergency Contacts:
Alert Information: medical alerts, pickup restrictions, etc.
Request Changes:
Teachers are given 5 working days to post grades once an assignment is completed.
Grade Point Averages and Class Rank are shown for high school students. The students are ranked at the end of 9th 10th, and 11th grade, in the middle of 12th grade and then a final rank is given at the end of the 5th six weeks for seniors.
