Spanish sayings

When you are learning Spanish there are sentences that can awaken your
curiosity because the translation is surprising. Each culture has its own sayings,
and the folk wisdom is always in their words. In Spain, these sentences are called
refranes. The Spanish language has a lot of sayings and we use them frequently.

Sometimes, we use the same words that other languages to express the same
saying:

All cats are grey in the dark.
Por la noche todos los gatos son pardos.

   All roads lead to Rome.
Todos los caminos conducen a Roma.

All that glitters is not gold.
No es oro todo lo que reluce.

   Barking dogs never bite.
   Perro ladrador, poco mordedor.

   Better late than never.
   M叩s vale tarde que nunca.

Other times, it is impossible to know if someone is talking about the same saying:

Dont bite more than you can chew.
El que mucho abarca, poco aprieta

Dont count your chickens before they are hatched.
No cantes victoria antes de tiempo.

Dont put all your eggs in one basket.
No te lo juegues todo a una sola carta.

   Finders, keepers; losers, weepers.
El que se fue a Sevilla, perdi坦 su silla.

In for a penny, in for a pound.
   De perdidos, al r鱈o.

   Like father, like son.
   De tal palo, tal astilla.
